DC United 1-3 Everton: Anichebe, Bilyaletdinov & Gueye on target to end US trip on winning note of the USA

Everton registered a relatively comfortable victory over DC United in the last game of their pre-season tour of the USA.
An early goal from Victor Anichebe followed by one from Diniyar Bilyaletdinov saw the Toffees run up a two-goal lead. Early on in the second-half, Chris Pontius pulled one back for the American outfit. But it was not enough as substitute Magaye Gueye made sure that there were no further slips between cup and lip.
The home side's boss Ben Olsen saw defenders Marc Burch and Dejan Jakovic return to action after recovering from their respective injuries.
David Moyes gave youngsters Ross Barkley and Apostolos Vellios a chance to impress by handing them starting roles, while Mikel Artata, Marouane Fellaini and Tim Howard were not in the squad for the encounter against the MLS club.
The Toffees started the game as if they were looking to compensate for the late goal that saw them lose to Philadelphia Union, as Leighton Baines played the ball into the patch of Anichebe, who chipped it past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net.
The hosts tried to slow down the pace of the game after the early goal, and played some possession football to settle down. And their strategy bore fruit as they managed to come to grips with things and mount some attacks of their own.
On one such occasion, a set-play saw veteran striker Josh Wolff take a shot, which went just wide of the far post.
However, after a little over 15 minutes, a splendid passing move eventually resulted in Bilyaletdinov getting his name on the score sheet as the visitors doubled their lead.
Barkley almost added another to the lead after 20 minutes, but was unable to do so as his strike was off target.
Young Honduran winger Andy Najar, however, was on target twice in the next few minutes and his second effort produced a good save from shot-stopper Jan Mucha.
The home side continued to probe and push forward to pull one back, with forward Joseph Ngwenya picking up on a flicked header from his strike partner Pontius to take a pop from 16 yards. Unfortunately for him, Mucha managed to tip the ball wide.
The half-time break appeared to have done Olsen's men a world of good, as Dwayne De Rosario played Pontius through and the 24-year-old easily reduced Everton's lead.
With about an hour gone and United putting pressure the visitors, midfielder Tim Cahill tried to ease things as he got to the end of a cross from Seamus Coleman. But the Australian's header went wide of Bill Hamid's goal.
Minutes later, Bilyaletdinov let loose a well struck shot that looked like it was going in, but instead hit the bar as the home fans breathed a sigh of relief.
But with only eight minutes left, a fantastic cross from Jermaine Beckford saw Gueye capitalising on the opportunity to put the Toffees in a comfortable position as he increased the lead.
Pontius tried to rescue the tie by taking a shot whenever he had a chance to do so, but it made no difference as the referee eventually brought things to a halt. Everton finished their pre-season tour of North America with a victory to savour.
