Guangdong 3-4 Liverpool: Charlie Adam makes debut as Andy Carroll finds the net
The Scottish midfielder emerged from the bench to make his first appearance since completing his move from Blackpool, but Kenny Dalglish's side were given a scare

Liverpool got their pre-season schedule under way with a thrilling victory in China against Guangdong.
Kenny Dalglish’s team played their first ever game on mainland Chinese soil and were without several big names, including Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez, but nonetheless put out a strong side, with Andy Carroll, Jamie Carragher and Dirk Kuyt all figuring, while Charlie Adam came off the bench to make his debut for the club.
Liverpool started strong, with Christian Poulsen and Joe Cole supplying the ammo for strikers David N'Gog and Daniel Pacheco.
N'Gog had a few chances early on, but was denied by the Guangdong defence, while at the other end any attack from the home side was swiftly shut down by the powerful Carragher and John Flanagan.
But Liverpool were able to break the deadlock in the 19th minute when an unmarked Poulsen calmly volleyed home a Joe Cole corner.
Three minutes later, a nice run of passes from Liverpool found Jay Spearing at the edge of the box, and the midfielder split the defence to find N'Gog, with the Frenchman dribbling inside the area before slotting home.
Spaniard Dani Pacheco came close to adding a third after being released in the box but his shot zipped wide, and minutes later the hosts converted as Ricardo Steer to headed powerfully past Peter Gulacsi.
The second half saw appearances from Adam, Carroll, Kuyt and Liverpool youngsters come on the field, but it was youngster Conor Coady who added the third with a powerful effort on 72 minutes.
A well-worked one-two between Maxi Rodriguez and Carroll culminated in a precision shot placed into the net from close range by the target man on 85 minutes.
But there was still time for a late rally from the hosts, as Lu Lin collected a cross and slotted beyond the keeper in the 90th minute before Yin Hongbo drilled home in injury time.
