At home, the young Frenchman earned his second game-winning goal against Unai Emery's men on the campaign, lifting his side temporarily into 12th place

A lone goal in the second half by Antoine Griezmann carried Real Sociedad to a 1-0 win over Valencia on Saturday in La Liga action.

The young winger, who also scored the winning goal in the first match-up of the season, managed to capitalise on a sleeping Los Che defence to end the season on a high note.

With the match being Unai Emery's last as coach of Valencia, with Mauricio Pellegrino taking over as the Spaniard departs for Spartak Moscow, Los Che came out with reserved lineup, with third place already secured.

In the opening 40 minutes of the contest, neither team could create a quality chance on goal, other than an isolated opportunity by Aritz Aduriz in the opening minutes, which did not go on frame. The defenders marked tight and goalkeepers were alert as the first half rapidly passed with nothing to show for it from either side, until Aduriz wasted a close chance two minutes from the break, looking for a clever chip from inside the box, which was not even close.

After the break, Pablo Hernandez nearly put the visitors up just four minutes in with a left-footed blast from the left side of the box, which Claudio Bravo saved with a quick dive. Seconds later, Aduriz had one of his side's best looks after Sofiane Feghouli did well down the left to get free, sending in a curling ball that found the veteran attacker six yards out, but the ball was headed wide.

On 58 minutes, Carlos Vela got free down the left, sending in a well-placed cross to the far post, which saw retiring captain, Mikel Aranburu, head the ball with power towards the front post, but Diego Alves was there to push it wide.

After Alves managed to make another fine save moments later on Daniel Estrada, the Brazilian couldn't make it three stellar saves in a row as the hosts found the opener. On 64 minutes, Griezmann found the net with a attentive sliding effort at the front post, connecting on a ball from Xabi Prieto on the right, sending the home fans into a frenzy.

Both teams attacked in the remaining minutes but neither could add to the score, with the hosts earning the well-deserved victory.

For the year, Valencia finish in third with 61 points, while Real Sociedad currently sit in 12th with 47 points, with several other league matches this weekend looking set to see where the home side ultimately finish in the table.
