    Iker Casillas

Made one brilliant save when he kept out Iborra's stinging angled drive and that was a crucial intervention as Levante were leading 1-0 at the time. Picked the ball out of his net twice but couldn't do anything more to prevent the goals. Little else to do.

  • Pepe

    Pepe

Solid overall and no flashpoint moments from the Portugal defender, but he was beaten in the air by Kone in the second half as Levante pulled a goal back.

  • Sergio Ramos

    2.50

    Sergio Ramos

His attempted clearance inadvertently set up Cabral for the opening goal, but the 25-year-old produced another good performance overall. Made some good clearances and passed well but was lucky the referee didn't stop his savage kick at Del Horno in the first half.

  • Fabio Coentrao

    Fabio Coentrao

Not a €30 million man but did a decent job overall in place of the still-sidelined Marcelo. Got forward well down his side of the pitch, used his pace to get him out of trouble defensively but not much trickery going forward and completely mishit one fantastic first-half chance.

  • Arbeloa
    34
    12
    3.00

    Arbeloa

Good block in Levante's first attack but was beaten in the air by Cabral for the first goal. Generally solid apart from that and got forward well to support the attack, but isn't really able to beat his man and is always forced inside when looking to get to the byeline.

  • Mesut Özil

    Mesut Özil

A bright start from the German, who offered himself generously on the right flank and cut inside neatly at times, but he was unable to find the killer ball we are accustomed to. Hit the post in the second half and had a decent game until he was replaced by Kaka on 80 minutes.

  • Esteban Granero

    Esteban Granero

Madrid look a more positive side with his creative input in the middle of the park alongside Xabi Alonso. Put in a shift defensively and recycled possession effectively. Replaced by Khedira with 15 minutes left.

  • Xabi Alonso

    Xabi Alonso

Helped Madrid control the midfield despite their early setback and kept the possession ticking over for the home side with his impressive array of passing. Worked hard defensively as well, saw a free-kick blocked by the referee and had one tame low shot on goal.

  • Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo Top of the Match

A wonderful display from the Portuguese forward, who was a threat throughout, scoring a penalty, a fine header and a stunning strike from distance to complete his hat-trick before bagging an assist as well when he set up Benzema. Also produced a brilliant flick to set up the Frenchman for a controversially disallowed strike early on.

  • Karim Benzema
    96
    9
    3.50

    Karim Benzema

Blasted just over the bar early on and then saw a strike controversially ruled out for offside. Worked tirelessly, though, and received his reward as he struck a stunning goal late on to make it 4-2 when he cut inside and curled home a lovely shot after being set up by Ronaldo.

  • Gonzalo Higuaín
    55
    21
    3.00

    Gonzalo Higuaín

Saw an angled drive saved early on, then curled a shot harmlessly wide after that as Madrid pushed for a leveller. Unable to beat Munua from close range late in the first half when he saw his poked effort pushed wide, but set up Ronaldo's header, combined well with Benzema and was full of running.

    Sami Khedira

Came on for the last 15 minutes and kept it simple as Madrid close out the game.

    Kaká

Came on for the last 10 minutes but was barely involved.

  • Callejón

    Callejón

Replaced Higuain and offered an outlet to Madrid but they couldn't really take advantage of his fresh legs.

  • Gustavo Adolfo Munúa

    Gustavo Adolfo Munúa

Could not have done more as he produced a number of fine saves to deny Madrid and was quick off his line to deal with crosses as well. Not close to saving the penalty but not at fault for any of the goals, either.

  • Asier Del Horno
    4
    7
    2.50

    Asier Del Horno

A decent performance from the left-back, who restricted the influence of Ozil down the right flank and got tight on Arbeloa when the full-back got forward as well. Also made one vital first-half block. Unable to stop Higuain's cross for the second goal, though.

  • Javier Rodríguez Venta

    2.50

    Javier Rodríguez Venta

Worked hard to limit the influence of Ronaldo but the Portuguese was at his brilliant best and gave the full-back a torrid time. Stuck stubbornly to his task, but was beaten for pace on several occasions.

  • Ballesteros
    3
    5
    3.00

    Ballesteros

Not at the form which saw him hailed as one of the best defenders in the league earlier this season, as he fluffed a couple of clearances and was beaten by Ronaldo for the Portuguese's headed goal. In fairness, he had looked much more comfortable before the dismissal of Iborra, though.

  • Gustavo Daniel Cabral
    4
    6
    3.50

    Gustavo Daniel Cabral

Defended well early on as Madrid dominated but was simply overwhelmed following the sending off of Iborra. Gave Levante a shock lead from a set piece as he got forward to beat Casillas with an excellent header.

  • Farinós
    5
    6
    2.50

    Farinós

Worked hard in the centre of the park and put in a real shift early on, it was his free-kick which set up the first goal, but he faded and was given an impossible task as he lost his midfield partner to a highly contentious red card before the interval.

  • Óscar Serrano
    3
    6
    2.50

    Óscar Serrano

A useful outlet on the flank in the first half, Serrano tested the Madrid defence with his pace and showed some neat passing as well. And it was his excellent cross which set up Kone for his side's second of the night.

  • Iborra
    10
    34
    1.50

    Iborra Flop of the Match

Very unlucky. The midfielder had been his side's best player as he flew into tackles, tracked back to help his defence, produced key blocks and almost put his side 2-0 up with a fierce angled drive. But he was inexplicably sent off for a non-deliberate handball which turned the game in Madrid's favour.

  • Valdo
    4
    4
    2.50

    Valdo

Good running on the right and decent defensive performance as he tracked back tirelessly. Unable to provide the attacking threat he is capable of, but didn't see enough of the ball either.

  • Arouna Kone
    11
    6
    3.50

    Arouna Kone

Led the line well and worked hard, getting his reward as he headed a fine second goal for his side in the second half and gave the Bernabeu some nervous moments until Benzema made it 4-2.

  • Nabil El Zhar
    8
    3
    2.50

    Nabil El Zhar

A decent performance behind Kone in the first half as he linked up well with his team-mates, but was sacrificed at the interval after Levante had been reduced to 10 men.

Substitutions

    Pedro López

Came on for Del Horno and did reasonably well late in the game.

  • Pallardó

    2.00

    Pallardó

Came on for the second half and was forced to work extremely hard as Madrid dominated. The Valencia-born midfielder did a good job defensively though as he put in plenty of tackles and was positive in possession too.

  • Pedro Botelho

    Pedro Botelho

The recent signing had little impact as a late substitute.
