Player Ratings: Hamburg 1-1 Bayern Munich

Was on top of his game between the posts. Produced two top-drawer saves from Robben and Muller in either half, and never lost his focus or cool as Bayern laid siege to his penalty area in the second half. Helpless for the equaliser, and unlucky not to come away with a clean sheet.

Locked down the right flank for the home side, making several well timed interceptions and never shying away from a challenge as Bayern set up camp in his team’s half for much of the game.

A rock at the back for the hosts. Always in the right place to snuff out danger, and kept Mario Gomez under his thumb for the entire match.

Had a tough time of it defending in the first half as Bayern were often able to get past him, with most of the visitor’s openings in the initial half came originated down his flank. However, he improved after the break and made a somewhat steady finish to the contest.

Provided some quality on the wings for Hamburg in the first half, always keeping the Bayern defence honest with his directness. Lost his edge around the hour mark as fatigue started to sink in, but his contribution to this game was positive.

For the most part he was solid in the heart of the defence, even though he was dragged out of position a few times to aid Aogo out wide.

Was his usual dogged self in the centre of the park, always quick to close down. Unsurprisingly, his tenacity got the better of him as he managed to escape with only a yellow for a scything challenge on Ribery on the edge of the box.

Ran his socks off to protect the result, and though the quality was not always there, the effort certainly was. Substituted to waste a few seconds in injury time.

Proved an elusive customer at times with his slippery runs and tricky feet. Did not always display enough end product, apart from his great cross to find Sala for the opener.

Not always afforded the opportunity to weave his magic in the hole, and though he functioned well in maintaining possession for his side, was never able to stamp his authority on the game.

Had a relatively quiet afternoon save-wise, but had to be alert off his line once or twice to stop HSV on the break. Could do nothing about Sala’s perfectly placed volley.

On more than one occasion, he showed good teamwork and awareness to cover for Tymoshchuk as the makeshift full back had gone walkabout. Was often fond as the last man back for the visitors against his former club, but it was his weak header in the buildup to HSV’s opener that kept the ball in the danger zone.

It was his spot of ball watching that left Sala with the freedom of the Imtech Arena to volley home the opening goal. Made some strides in the second half to support the attack, but his lapse in concentration was ultimately key in denying the Bavarians maximum points.

A mixed game for the centre back as he was often on point when his team sat back to defend deep in numbers, but always looked stretched when HSV looked to catch his team out on the counter attack.

Dominated the ball in the offensive third of the pitch, but his task was ultimately in vain in what could only be described as a frustrating outing. Too often he lacked the final flourish to his play, as the attention of the HSV defence, the lack of synergy from his teammates and his own judgement prevented his endeavor from coming off. Also wasted one or two good positions from set pieces.

Took a long while to get into the game, with his first half performance indicative of someone who may not yet be back to full fitness or form. Had one testing long range drive fisted away by Drobny and even though he was a greater threat after the interval, he did not quite have the killer instinct of old.

Disciplined in midfield as always, making Bayern tick with his incisive passing. Was not overly influential over proceedings, but gave a solid showing and was rarely at fault.

Cleared a goalbound header off the line in the opening minutes of the game, but apart from a few tidy passes, was not really able to make a mark in the game. Withdrawn just after the hour mark.

His goal drought continues as he failed to really find top gear on the evening. Showcased a few nice flicks and one touch passes to link with his teammates, but ultimately could not provide what was required. Had one of the game’s best chances with a low shot from the corner of the box that was tipped wide by Drobny.

Just one of those days for the Bundesliga top scorer, who rarely had the time or space to get a clear sight on goal. He fluffed his lines on his one genuine opportunity, firing over the bar when put through on goal. Saw yellow for a striker’s challenge on Westermann in the first half.
