Remember to stick with Goal.com for all the post match news and analysis. My name is Tom Webber and it has been a true pleasure, as always, to guide you through this afternoon's action. Have a lovely evening!
With just two games remaining in the year you can still expect some movement up the top as every team wants the confidence boosts of being 'winter champions'.
Both sides now drop a place following Bayern Munich's 4-1 win over Werder Bremen. The Bavarian side now occupy top spot with Dortmund and Gladbach in 2nd and 3rd respectively.
Well Dortmund were punished for not making the most of numerous opportunities after they took the lead. Credit to Gladbach though for continually fighting and earning a way back into the game with a great move after 72 minutes.
The full time whistle goes!
Just one minute of stoppage time to be played here!
Gladbach are going for it here! They just cant seem to find a way through the Dortmund defence. Lewandowski has an effort but it's well wide. Corner now for Gladbach.
BARRIOS!! He goes close but sends his shot just wide of the right post. The game seems destined to end a draw.
Not long left now, a few stoppages in the last couple of minutes. Will we find a winner before full time?
DANTE AGAIN!! He gets on the end of Arango's set-piece delivery but his header is nowhere near the target. That's his third chance of the night, he should have turned one in!
Another bad challenge by Santana on Arango. He needs to be careful now or he could well be sent off and leave his team with just 10 men in the last 10 minutes.
IT'S IN... BUT OFFSIDE IS GIVEN!! A well worked move is popped into the open net by Lewandowski but the striker is offside from the pass.
FANTASTIC SAVE FROM TER STEGEN!! Gotze and Kagawa combine well and the former's shot is saved by the keeper as he gets down low and sends the ball behind. Great keeping.
Yellow Card Felipe Santana
Dortmund have been punished for failing to take their chances as Gladbach show immense spirit to get back in the game. With 15 minutes left in the game they are now looking to go and win it. What an end to the game we are in store for.
Assist Raul Bobadilla
Goal Mike Hanke
HANKEEEEEEEE!!! GREAT GOAL!! Superb finish from the towering striker. A nice move ends with Bobadilla playing the killer ball through to his strike partner. Hanke takes a punt from 20 metres and it slides into the bottom corner past Weidenfeller. Superb goal.
It comes to nothing and the difference remains the same. Will Dortmund be punished for not taking there chances with just under 20 minutes remaining.
Dortmund are pressing to add to their tally. and they have another corner.
Gotze with a free kick on the edge of the area but he wastes it sending it high behind the goal.
SANATANAAAA!!! He heads it over! Gotze once again provides pinpoint delivery and Santana beat ter Stegen to the ball but just could not keep his header down.
Throw in for Dortmund deep in the Gladbach half. It's sent short to Gotze and now they have a corner.
LEWANDOWSKI SKIES IT!! Dante puts in a great challenge on Gundogen but the ball comes straight back to the Polish striker. He is through on goal but fails to hit the target when he should really have tested ter Stegen. Gladbach are not the only team guilty of missing the target.
Nordtveit plays a ball into the Hanke but the striker skies his shot and fails to test Weidenfeller. The keeper has not had a lot to do today.
Arango sends in a great corner with excellent pace and whip. Dante gets up but heads wide of the post under a bit of pressure from his own player, Stranzl.
Gladbach have tasted possession a lot more this half. You get the feeling that if they don't make the most of these moments then they will be hit by a second Dortmund goal.
Another poor delivery, this time from Jantschke. They need to make the most of these opportunities if they are to get back in this game.
Dante plays a great long ball up to Bobadilla who squeezes in a cross but it he gets the trajectory all wrong and it loops into the arms of Weidenfeller. They need some more of that.
Jantschke looks to carry the ball forward for Gladbach but as soon as he reaches the opposition's half he is crowded out by four Dortmund players and they win back possession.
Piszczek smashes over after Kagawa's ball into the box reaches the right back on the edge of the area. If he'd kept that down then it would have really tested ter Stegen early on in the second half.
Here comes the final 45 minutes! Can Gladbach find a way back into the game in front of their raucous crowd? They will need to create a few more chances going forward.
The teams will be out any moment and the second half will be underway. Dortmund have arguably been the better team but they will need another if they are to secure victory and remain on top of the Bundesliga.
While the teams are in the dressing room you have time to go grab yourself a warm beverage to fight off the cold. I'll be back in 10 minutes for the second half. Any thoughts on the game tweet me @thwebber.
So there is just the one goal separating the two sides. Gladbach have been relatively impotent in attack and are struggling for width. Dortmund need to find that final ball if they are to take a bigger lead in this game.
It's half time here. Lewandowski's 10th goal of the season is the difference after ter Stegen's touch guided the ball into the net. Dortmund have been slightly the better side.
Into stoppage time now. A fairly scrappy game in parts has just a few minutes left before the break.
Bobadilla and Hanke have been relatively quiet after the Argentine's chance early on. He gets another opportunity from Arango's poor delivery but he blazes the ball over after an impressive turn.
Yellow Card Marcel Schmelzer
Could have been a second there for Dortmund but Piszczek's control let him down and the ball rolled comfortably into the arms of ter Stegen.
Assist Mario Götze
Goal Robert Lewandowski
LEWANDOWSKI SCORES!!! Gotze's corner is headed by an unmarked Lewandowski. The Polish striker heads it back across the goal and ter Stegen gets a touch that takes it away from Daems and into the very corner of the goal. A deserved lead for Dortmund.
Another good passing move from deep by Dortmund but the final ball just wasn't there. Gotze tried to slip Lewandowski in but the ball was intercepted.
KAGAWAAAAA!! Well worked corner, Gotze finds the Japanese midfielder on the edge of the area. He thumps the ball at goal on the half volley and ter Stegen palms it back into the danger area but Grosskreutz is offside.
Another offside decision given against Dortmund. The game has gone a bit stale now. Will there be another goal before halftime? Let me know your thoughts @thwebber.
Gotze is offside. The chances have become a bit thinner as the game has continued. Just over half an hour gone but we've been pretty well entertained here.
Santana almost releases Schmelzer down the right hand side. ter Stegen charges out of his goal to close down the ball and see's it off for a goal kick like an expert defender.
The first goal in this game will be crucial. It will be a huge boost of confidence for whichever team manages to go into the winter break on the top of the league. Will it be either of these two?
Some scrappy play from the hosts in the middle of the park, a series of air passes as the players struggle to bring the ball down. Fortunately for them Dortmund fail to do anything with the possession.
DANTEEEEE!! The Brazilian centre back goes close after knocking the ball goalwards from Arango's cross. Great chance for the defender, Gladbach starting to eke out a few more opportunities.
Lewandowski almost gets in behind, ter Stegen follows him out wide and he sends the ball into the middle but no one is there to slot it home.
Dortmund are winning the ball high up the pitch and knocking it about well. They just need to find that final penetrating pass to get in behind the defence.
LEWANDOWSKI GOES CLOSE!!! Santana's ball is lofted back in and Lewandowski is through on goal. Dante gets the slightest of touches to slow the striker. It allowed Neustadter to get back in time and knock the ball behind, avoiding the first goal of the game.
Nordtveit drills a half-volley at goal from an extremely acute angle but the ball flies over the goal. The Norweigan is still awaiting his first league goal.
Gladbach's good form must be partially down to their consistent squad selection so will Marco Reus' absence be felt today? They are starting to settle down no and are enjoying more possession.
Gundogan wins possession in the Gladbach half but gives it away almost immediately. A counter from the hosts is eventually mopped up by Hummels and the danger is cleared.
Bobadilla finds himself free in the box with Weidenfeller's positioning all over the place. He gets around the ball to loft it over the keeper with his left foot but Schmelzer gets back to cover and clear the ball off the line.
Gotze's free kick is flighted in and Hummels heads it across goal but ter Stegen gathered comfortably.
Kagawa has already played an impressive couple of passes but Lewandowski is scored offside. You'd have to say that Dortmund are favourites here today but Gladbach have pleasantly surprised so far this term.
Dortmund are enjoying some early pressure as Gladbach are struggling to get on the ball and settle in.
Within 20 seconds Gotze is almost through on goal but Daems intercepts and Dortmund win the corner. The resultant corner is headed behind but they have another.
We're underway here!
The handshakes are being completed and we are moments away from kick off.
The hosts are without Reus in midfield today as they look to overthrow their opponents at the top of the league. For Dortmund, Subotic and Bender are both missing.
Dortmund (4-2-3-1): Weidenfeller; Piszczek, Santana, Hummels, Schmelzer; Gundogan, Kehl; Gotze, Kagawa, Grosskreutz; Lewandowski. Subs: Barrios, Da Silva, Perisic, Blaszczykowski, Lowe, Owomoyela, Langerak.
