Tim Ream could finally make his Bolton debut in this relegation crunch tie at the Reebok Stadium.
The United States centre-back, whose move from the New York Red Bulls was confirmed over a fortnight ago, has started training with his new team-mates this week after all the paperwork relating to the deal was completed
He is set to be part of the Wanderers matchday squad for the first time, along with fellow January recruit Ryo Miyaichi, the Japanese winger having signed on loan from Arsenal for the rest of the season.
Gretar Steinsson (hamstring) and Joe Riley (groin) may return having missed last weekend's 2-0 defeat at Norwich, but another defender Marcos Alonso (foot) is not yet ready.
For Wigan, defender Antolin Alcaraz (groin) is back in contention to start after being left on the bench against Everton last week.
Midfielder Mohamed Diame could also make his first appearance since returning from the Africa Nations Cup.

The ex-Manchester United midfielder has started to look every bit the established Premier League player this season.
He has pulled the strings in midfield for the hosts all season, and could cause the Wigan defence problems with his incisive passing.

Arguably the Latics’ main threat. His pace and directness makes him a handful for any backline.
Has started to deliver on the promise which prompted Roberto Martinez to bring him to the club from Crystal Palace.
Has started to deliver on the promise which prompted Roberto Martinez to bring him to the club from Crystal Palace.
Given the importance of this fixture for both sides' hopes of staying in the Premier League, you might expect it to be a tight encounter.
However, with the leaky nature of both defences there may well be a few goals in it. Both keepers will be kept busy and their performances could have a huge bearing on the result.
