Blackburn - QPR Preview: Hosts yet to keep a clean sheet as Mark Hughes returns to his old stomping ground

Steve Kean will hope for a repeat of the sides' last meeting in the Premier League at Ewood Park in 1995 when Rovers claimed a 1-0 win thanks to Alan Shearer

Blackburn will be boosted by the return of top goalscorer Yakubu, meaning January signing Anthony Modeste is likely to drop to the substitutes bench. Chris Samba is still unavailable following a spat with his manager over the club's refusal to allow him to leave in January whilst Gael Givet is suspended following his red card against Arsenal.

Ryan Lowe is a doubt with an ankle injury and Steve Kean will be hoping he will be fit to play following his good recent form, though Bradley Orr is on standby if he is unavailable.

QPR will be without the ever-reliable Luke Young who has a hamstring which means that Nedum Onuoha is likely to move to right-back with Fitz Hall coming into the centre of defence to partner Anton Ferdinand.

Djribil Cisse is suspended following his red card against Wolves and with Jay Bothroyd, DJ Campbell and Heidar Helguson still all injured, Rob Hulse is likely to be handed an unlikely Premier League lifeline.

It seems obvious to pick Blackburn's returning top scorer but he really is critical to their success. Since the Nigerian was sent off against Fulham his team-mates have failed to win a single game and have just managed just 3 goals in his absence. Steve Kean is sure to start Yakubu despite him missing the last three games and his hopes lay heavy on the broad shoulders of the 29-year-old.

The outspoken Moroccan has struggled to make an impact in the Premier League this season and, despite being continually linked with a move away from the club, he stayed and finally produced the goods last week with a man of the match performance against Wolves. Taarabt's creativity could be key to breaking down the leaky Blackburn defence as Rangers look to pull away from the dreaded drop zone.
Prediction
Both sides bring an attacking brand of football and know that a draw will do little for their survival hopes in a game they will perceive as winnable. Yakubu and Bobby Zamora are two strikers that will be counted on to produce the goods and with neither side particularly watertight in defence, it is expected there will be goals in this clash.
