Aston Villa 0-2 Swansea City: Nathan Dyer & Wayne Routledge sink Alex McLeish's men as visitors secure first away win of season

The wingers' early goals in both halves saw off the West Midlands outfit, as the Villans fourth home defeat in a row sees the Welsh side leapfrog them in the table

Swansea City earned their first away victory of the season at Aston Villa Monday with a consummate 2-0 win at Villa Park on Monday.

Quick-fire strikes at the beginning of each half from Swans' wingers Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge shutout Villa and cast misery on boss Alex McLeish, who saw his side fail to build on Saturday's 3-1 victory away to Chelsea.

Swansea coach Brendan Rodgers chose to ring the changes before kick-off, with Danny Graham restored to the starting line-up while Scott Sinclair dropped to the bench.

Villa manager McLeish opted for largely the same side that secured three points at Stamford Bridge, with Darren Bent returning to the first XI after he came on to score his side's third against the Blues.

The home side profited almost immediately when an errant backpass from Villa defender Stephen Warnock enabled Swans winger Dyer to attack centre-back Richard Dunne one-on-one after four minutes.

The 24-year-old's shot from just inside the penalty box deflected off the big Irishman and past goalkeeper Brad Guzan to give the visitors a surprise 1-0 lead early on.

The Villans responded in course, but a series of half-chances and almost continuous possession until half-time proved insufficient for an equaliser.

Swansea again looked the livelier after the restart however, and managed to capitalise straight away as they doubled their advantage after two minutes.

Villa keeper Guzan fluffed a clearance, allowing Swansea to attack again with numbers. Forward Graham struck the post from inside the area but winger Routledge was on-hand to profit from the rebound and give Swansea the 2-0 lead with his first ever goal in the Premier League.

McLeish's outfit lacked the creativity required to break down Swansea's defence and the visitors calmly saw out their first Premier League victory of the season.

A last-minute strike from Villa winger Charles N'Zogbia hit the post, but proved to be merely a reminder of how close yet far away the hosts were from being competitive on the day.

The loss was Villa's fourth in a row at home this season, while Rodgers' side climb above the West Midlands outfit to 11th in the table.
