    Fabricio Coloccini

A commanding presence on his return to the team. Used the ball well and didn’t allow Danny Graham any room to move or to bring his team-mates into play. Solid defending, showed exactly what the Magpies missed last week.

  • Davide Santon

    Davide Santon

Sometimes careless in possession as he gave the ball away in dangerous positions. Defended stoutly against former Newcastle-man Routledge as he didn’t give him an inch down the right.

    Danny Simpson

Tried to support Obertan down the right to give him option which was seldom used. Defended well against Sinclair particularly in the first half where he didn’t get a kick.

    James Perch

Defended well alongside Coloccini after difficult game last week against Norwich. Tried to play the ball out of defence rather than hoofing the ball upfield. Composed performance.

    Yohan Cabaye

Put dangerous balls into the box which troubled the Swans defence. Made Newcastle tick in midfield and used the ball extremely well, always seemed to find a team-mate.

  • Jonas Gutierrez

    Jonas Gutierrez

Was a threat down the left using his pace and skill to good effect. Beat Richards on several occasions and whipped in dangerous crosses unfortunately for him and Newcastle no-one got on the end of them. Unlucky to see powerful effort drift wide.

  • Cheikh Tiote

    Cheikh Tiote

Didn’t look 100% fit as he didn’t look his usual composed self in the centre of midfield. Missed challenges which allowed Swansea to break, looked off the pace with the visitors' quick midfield.

  • Demba Ba

    Demba Ba

Unlucky not to give Newcastle the lead in the first half with three excellent efforts. Good movement and was always a threat to the Swansea defence. A handful in the air. Should have given side victory but wasted chances.

  • Leon Best

    Leon Best

Linked up well with Ba and used his height and physical presence to trouble the visitors particularly from set-plays. Drifted in and out of the game however in the second half.

  • Gabriel Obertan

    Gabriel Obertan

Beat his man on several occasions down the right-hand side for the Magpies but frustrated his team-mates and the crowd by failing to pick out a Newcastle shirt in the box.

Michel Vorm Top of the Match

Made two excellent saves to deny Ba. Kicking and handling were superb. Kept visitors in the game in the second half with a brilliant performance.

  • Ashley Williams

    Ashley Williams

Gave as good as he got in aerial battle with Ba and Best as he won his fair share of headers. On the ground he struggled with the movement of Ba especially as the Senegalese striker escaped his attentions a good few times.

  • Neil Taylor

    Neil Taylor

Got out-paced by Obertan but fortunately for the Welshman the winger couldn’t deliver a decent cross into the box when on another day he could have been punished. Tried to get forward but was restricted by Newcastle’s passing play.

  • Steven Caulker

    Steven Caulker

Used the ball when he played the ball out of defence. In a physical battle with the front two of the Magpies he gave as he good as he got but struggled with the pace and movement particularly of Ba.

  • Leon Britton

    Leon Britton

Not given the time and space he usually has in the midfield as the Magpies were alert to his passing ability. Tried to protect his defence from Newcastle’s advancing midfield which he did a decent job of.

  • Scott Sinclair

    Scott Sinclair

Wasn’t really in the game at all until the second half where he used his pace to catch Newcastle on the break. Could have given the Swans the lead but his effort went just wide of the post. Inconsistent performance.

  • Wayne Routledge

    Wayne Routledge

Saw a lot of the ball but couldn’t do anything with it. Used his pace to great effect but failed to find team-mates in the area when it mattered the most.

  • Joe Allen

    Joe Allen

Tried to make things happen for the visitors and was always in the game. His passing was not at its sharpest but still gave a good account of himself. Strong in the tackle as well showing the physical side to his game.

  • Mark Gower

Mark Gower Flop of the Match

Disappointing game from the midfielder. Gave cheap fouls away in dangerous positions and didn’t retain the ball well at all. Substituted at half-time.

  • Ashley Richards

    Ashley Richards

Struggled with the threat of Gutierrez as he allowed the Argentine to beat him around the box too many times and far too many crosses came in from the Newcastle left which led to chances.

  • Danny Graham

    Danny Graham

Had it tough as the lone frontman for the visitors but put in a good shift and tried to bring his team-mates into play. Didn’t get any chances in front of goal as supply line was poor.

Used the ball well in midfield and tackled well after replacing Gower at half-time. Ensured Swans kept up defensive effort with a disciplined game.
