Blackburn defeated visiting Swansea City 4-2 to ease the pressure on under-fire manager Steve Kean, with Yakubu's four-goal haul.
The Nigerian struck a brace in each half largely against the run of play to earn a reprieve for the Rovers boss after continued demonstrations from the home supporters.
The visitors controlled most of the first half's proceedings, passing the ball well to maintain possession as Rovers defended deep.
Swansea winger Scott Sinclair had the game's first chance after eight minutes, as tried to find the back post with a curling effort, but couldn't find the target.
The hosts' first real attack of the game didn't come until 12 minutes when Morton Gamst Pederson sent in a long free-kick that went straight out-of-bounds.
Despite the Welsh club's relative control of the match, it was Blackburn who struck first on 20 minutes, predictably from a counter-attack.
The home side countered sprightly down the left-side, Gael Givet exchanging passes before cutting back to Yakubu, with the Nigerian striking the ball first-time with his left foot into the top far corner to give Rovers the lead.
The goal opened up the match, with both sides delving forward, and the next decent chance on 25 minutes also to fall to Yakubu after good work by Maruo Formica, but the former Middlesbrough striker pulled his shot wide.
Swansea continued to defend Blackburn's direct attacks, replying with longer spells of possession without ever approaching dominance.
On 34 minutes, the Welsh club broke Blackburn's deep resistance with a long cross from the right from Goyer.
Leroy Lita chose placement over power as he leaped backwards inside the six-yard box to cushion the ball into the far-corner with a spun header, ending the Swans' four-and-a-half hour goal drought and levelling the match at 1-1.

Yak-trick | Yakubu bagged all four goals to ease the pressure on boss Steve Kean
Swansea continued their ascendency after the rare goal, controlling and passing within Blackburn's half, creating odd half-chances, however, on the back foot, they were leaving too much space in the middle of the field, often allowing Blackburn to counter better than they should.
In stoppage time of the first half, Rovers did just that, forcing the visitors to concede a corner.
Pederson's ensuing delivery was only half-cleared, and Simon Vukcevic volleyed the ball back into the danger zone for the stalwart Yakubu to head in from close range and give the league's bottom side a 2-1 lead going into half-time.
Swans boss Brendan Rodgers replaced the decent Nathan Dyer with Wayne Routeledge in an attempt to get more penetration along Blackburn's right side to start the second half.
The second 45 began as much as the first half had transpired. Swansea had the majority of the possession but Kean's men were holding deep with the odd counter.
Sinclair was enjoying particular joy on the left for the visitors, but all his deliveries were foiled at their death.
And similarly to the first half, Blackburn scored against the run of play with Yakubu poaching typically after the robust Christopher Samba created disarray inside the visitor's box.
The Nigerian headed home from close range after Samba laid-down Pederson's corner to claim the hat-trick and give manager Kean a much-needed 3-1 lead.
Rodgers brought on Luke Moore after 60 minutes for Goyer in an attempt to capitalise on his side's possession, a decision which bore fruit five minutes later.
Routeledge shot from across the area, forcing a parry from Robinson which fell right to Moore to finish inside the six-yard box and peg one back for the visitors.
With 10 minutes left, Swans defender Neil Taylor committed a foul in the box, earning a second yellow as the visitors went down to 10-men. Hat-trick hero Yakubu stepped up and confidently spun the ball into the right corner, making it four on the night for player and club.
Rovers held on for the last 10 minutes to ease pressure on their maligned boss with an important 4-2 home win against the fellow relegation contenders.
Blackburn climb into 18th place on 10 points with just their second victory of the season.
