Everton ended their poor run of form and earned a much needed three points with a 2-1 win over Wolves at Goodison Park on Saturday, thanks to goals from England duo Phil Jagielka and Leighton Baines.
Moyes’ side went into the game behind Wolves in the table, sitting in 17th place, with the Toffees' tendency to start the campaign slowly once again rearing its head.
Wolves boss McCarthy was looking to build on a moral boosting victory over relegation rivals Wigan Athletic, and with virtually a fully fit team to choose from, a win over the Toffees, who have struggled at home, was certainly possible.
And it was a busy start at Goodison Park, with Everton dominating the lion’s share of possession and pressing Wolves back deep into their own half.
The first chance came for the Toffees as Seamus Coleman found Royston Drenthe with a well worked cross, but the Dutchman could only find the hands of Wayne Hennessey.
The hosts continued to attack but were unable to find a way through in the final third, as the visitor’s well organised defence made it difficult for Everton to break them down.

Blushes spared | Fellaini gave away an early penalty, but helped his side to a 2-1 victory
Wolves' stubborn backline continued to frustrate the home side and against the run of play, McCarthy’s men earned a penalty after Marouane Fellaini brought down midfielder David Edwards right on the edge of the area. Stephen Hunt stepped up and rattled the ball right down the centre, sending Howard the wrong way.
The home crowd were stunned into silence as they saw their team fall behind despite dominating possession. However, just as it seemed Everton would be going in at half-time behind, Jagielka equalised for the home side, heading home Baines' free-kick from the left-hand side.
The first half ended in controversy as Everton felt they should have been awarded a penalty. Karl Henry appeared to pull down Tim Cahill inside the area as he tried to latch on to a blocked Fellaini shot, but referee Jon Moss waved play on as both sides went into the break level.
The home side continued to dominate much of the second half possession, but once again found it difficult to penetrate the Wolves defence, much to the frustration of the Everton fans, with Cahill missing from close range.
The breakthrough finally came on the 82nd minute when Everton were awarded a penalty after Stephen Ward was penalised for leaning on Louis Saha. Baines made no mistake, sending the keeper the wrong way to give his side a late lead.
Everton held on to the final whistle to take all three points, awarding Moyes with a much needed win after a poor start to this season's Premier League campaign.
