Live Commentary

  • 90' + 4'
And with that, the whistle goes for full-time. Man City win at White Hart Lane for the first time in eight years, and they do it in style. Not since November 2004 have Spurs conceded five at home. What a marker by Man City. Unbelievable.
  • 90' + 3'
    Assist Gareth Barry
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
  • 90' + 3'
GOAL! Dzeko grabs his fourth and City's fifth! And he saves the best for last. Barry strides up field and lays it off neatly for Dzeko to curl a glorious effort into the far top corner. Outstanding.
  • 90' + 1'
Into stoppage time, where there will be three minutes.
  • 89'
The final moments just being played out now. The berth between these two sides today has been astounding. Just three years ago City were a mid-table side and Spurs were comfortably in Europe. Now, City have taken Spurs place in the Champions League and have tonked them on their own turf. I guess that's what unlimited sums of money can do, but Spurs need to invest themselves to stop games like this happening.
  • 86'
Out of nowhere Dawson finds himself way up field after combining with Livermore, who has done well since his introduction, and the centre-back has a dig from 20 yards and, well, the less said about it the better. You will struggle to find a worst shot all season, I'd imagine.
  • 83'
And they nearly get a fifth as more fine work from Nasri allows the Frenchman to cut the ball back for Dzeko inside the area and only a great save from Friedel stops Dzeko grabbing his fourth.
  • 82'
It's probably fair to say that Spurs' brief rally is over, but City seem keen to add a fifth.
  • 81'
Bale makes one of this trademark bursts down the left but he looks up to find no Spurs player in the box for the cut back, so he has to do it alone and can only muster a tame shot at goal that Hart easily gathers.
  • 79'
Nasri has had such a good debut. WIth two assists already in the bag, he nearly makes it three as a wonderful flick over Kaboul sets Silva free in the area but the Spaniard cannot keep the bouncing ball under control and lashes it over the bar.
  • 76'
    Yellow Card Stefan Savic
  • 76'
Hmmm, this is all a bit strange. Savic comes on for Aguero but jumps the gun slightly and tries to join the rest of his team before Aguero has made it off the pitch. He gets a yellow card for being too eager.
  • 75'
    SubstitutionSergio Agüero Stefan Savic
  • 73'
Van Der Vaart looked in a right mood as he was walking down the tunnel. Not sure if that's because he had to come off, or because of his team's performance but things are not looking good either way.
  • 72'
Defoe really is all over the place at the moment, in a good way that is. Another big worry for Spurs though is that Van Der Vaart has just walked off the pitch after appearing to pull his hamstring. Spurs have used all their substitutes aswell so they are down to 10 men.
  • 71'
Another great effort from Defoe as he wringles free from two City players and lets fly with a typical hard shot that Hart does well to parry. The goal has definitely lifted them but surely it's too late.
  • 68'
    Assist Rafael van der Vaart
  • 68'
    Goal Younes Kaboul
  • 68'
GOAL! Spurs get one back through Kaboul! The corner is swung in the the French international has a free header to claw one back for Spurs. Surely a consolation.
  • 67'
Wow. Defoe has done nothing since coming on, but that's not entirely his fault due to City's dominance, but he lets fly with a stunning effort from 30 yards that Hart had to tip over for a corner...
  • 66'
    SubstitutionLuka Modric Jake Livermore
  • 66'
And now Spurs make a change, their third and final as Jake Livermore comes on in place for Luka Modric. Could that be the last time Spurs fans see the Croatian at White Hart Lane?
  • 64'
    SubstitutionPablo Zabaleta Micah Richards
  • 64'
A change for City now and it's the booked Zabaleta making way for Micah Richards.
  • 61'
It is getting really messy for Spurs now. They haven't been 4-0 down at home since February 2007, and that was against the champions elect Man United.
  • 60'
    Assist Samir Nasri
  • 60'
    Goal Sergio Agüero
  • 60'
GOAL! It's 4-0! Now City's other striker Sergio Aguero gets in on the act. Nasri plays a great through ball down the right flank for Aguero to run onto. Dawson tries to smother but is turned inside out before the Argentinian finishes with aplomb from a tight angle. Great finish.
  • 59'
At the risk of stating the obvious, Spurs are just all out of ideas. Man City are completely controlling possession, and when Spurs do get their foot on the ball they just don't know what to do with it.
  • 55'
    Assist Yaya Touré
  • 55'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
  • 55'
GOAL! And Dzeko get's his hattrick! City win a corner and Spurs only half clear it to the edge of the area. Nasri finds Yaya Toure on the right flank and the powerful Ivorian strides into the area and threads a great ball through to Dzeko to tap in his, and City's, third from about a yard out.
  • 54'
As play resumes City have their first attack of the second half and it's Dzeko looking for his hattrick with another strong header from around 15 yards out. It bounces wide of the post though with Friedel at full stretch.
  • 53'
    SubstitutionAaron Lennon Jermain Defoe
  • 53'
And here comes Defoe, in place of Aaron Lennon who is limping a tad. Van Der Vaart out wide on the right with Defoe partnering Crouch up front then it seems.
  • 52'
Defoe warming up on the sidelines.
  • 50'
....Spurs play it short but find options limited and the move breaks down.
  • 49'
Pressure all over the park by Man City sees Spurs struggle to get forward but the home side win a corner off Zabaleta...
  • 48'
Spurs start the second half with two ventures forward, but Crouch is penalised for handball and then offside to put a stop to that.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionNiko Kranjcar Tom Huddlestone
  • 46'
And Man City gets us back underway at White Hart Lane where the visitors lead 2-0 through a Dzeko brace.
  • Half-time sub for Spurs as Huddlestone replaces Kranjcar, who was limping slighlty near the end.
  • The teams are on their way back out for the second half. Can Spurs turn this around? Well, if they can they need to stiffle the excellent Silva and Nasri. Fantastic debut so far from the former Arsenal man. Don't forget the talents of Aguero and Dzeko aswell.
  • 45' + 3'
And with that the half-time whistle blows. Spurs are stunned. First a big penalty shout before City's first, then Crouch goes extremely close before City striked again. The away side with all the possession as the half draw to a close.
  • 45' + 2'
Into the second minute of added time and Aguero wins a corner after great work against Assou-Ekotto. It comes in and Spurs clear up at the second attempt and Bale is suddenly free through Bale. The Welshman paces 40 yards and tries his luck from distance and wins a corner. It's straight at Hart, and not for the first time from the Spurs corner.
  • 45'
Dzeko, on a hattrick of course, finds space 30 yards out and tries his luck but Friedel gets a strong palm to it and pushes it away. City come again and his time its that man Silva with an effort from distance, but this time it flies wide. Three minutes of added time to play.
  • 43'
City really into their stride now and Harry will need to make changes at half-time to put a stop to this.
  • 41'
    Assist Samir Nasri
  • 41'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
  • 41'
GOAL! Dzeko again! After Crouch tries his luck with a great header, Dzeko immediately tops him with a fantastic header across goal, under pressure from Dawson to give City a 2-0 lead. That was mighty impressive.
  • 38'
Wow. I was sure that was in. Spurs charge up field through Van Der Vaart and Bale and the former's shot is blocked inside the area and the move breaks down but Spurs come back immmediately and Bale delivers the best cross I've seen so far this season and Crouch powers a header about an inch wide of the top corner. Wow. So close.
  • 36'
City come again as more great one-touch passing sees the away side work their way into the Spurs area but Silva accidently handles the ball and the move ends.
  • 34'
    Assist Samir Nasri
  • 34'
    Goal Edin Dzeko
  • 34'
GOAL! Dzeko puts Man City 1-0 up! A gloriously fluid attack, directly after a massive shout for a penalty down the other end, sees four City players break down the left-flank and ends with debutant Nasri teeing up Dzeko on the six-yard line to toe-poke past Friedel. It has been coming.
  • 32'
Silva is a great player, isn't he? Anyways, Man City go extremely close, almost from nothing as the small Spaniard finds Barry lurking near the edge of the area and supplies the pass for him to have a dig. It's got all the power in the world and flies mere inches past the right-hand post.
  • 31'
Yellow Card Rafael van der Vaart
  • 30'
Yet another booking and this time it's a Spurs player as Van Der Vaart sees yellow for a push on Zabaleta. Slightly harsh, but there you go.
  • 27'
Big BIG chance for Spurs. Lennon does brilliantly down the right, skipping into the City area and to the touchline before chipping it back towards Crouch. The tall striker nods it on for the unmarked Bale to smash with his magical left foot, but he cannot get the ball under control and it flies over.
  • 26'
A third City player finds his way into the referee's book as Yaya Toure stupidly kicks the ball away the whistle was blown.
  • 25'
    Yellow Card Yaya Touré
  • 25'
Mid-way through the first half and no team particularly on top. City, arguably, with more of an attacking threat but Spurs easily holding their own.
  • 23'
    Yellow Card Pablo Zabaleta
  • 23'
You may have noticed I haven't mentioned Gareth Bale yet. Well, his first meaningful contribution is to be the victim of Zabaleta's mis-timed tackle and the Argentinian sees yellow for it.
  • 21'
...and Van der Vaart stakes it and curls it superbly around the wall, but Hart gets across superbly and punches it away. That was either hitting the post or sneaking inside. Great stuff from both players.
  • 20'
    Yellow Card Gareth Barry
  • 20'
Freekick to Spurs, around 25 yards out to the left of the goal. Barry goes into the book for the foul on Van der Vaart....
  • 18'
City come back again and are getting more and more confident as the time ticks by. Dawson again is the man in the right place though as he gets in a block on Dzeko's stinging shot.
  • 17'
Great, great save from Friedel. David Silva runs diagonally away from goal with Dawson and Corluka tracking him, but the Spaniard still manages to sneak a shot off and it's headed straight for the far bottom corner before the 40-year-old keeper shows reflexs Hart would be proud of to get down and tip it wide.
  • 15'
The three Spurs Croatians (Corluka, Kranjcar and Modric) combine beautifully down the right flank but Yaya Toure spots his target and takes out the smallest of the three and the attack is over. Opportunist.
  • 12'
Dawson and Kaboul are going to have their hands full this afternoon with the likes of Dzeko and Aguero, but they breathe a sigh of relief as the former takes a shot at goal that even I would have been embarrassed of, and I'm terrible at football.
  • 11'
    Yellow Card Benoit Assou-Ekotto
  • 11'
First booking for the game as Assou-Ekotto sees yellow after a needless challenge on Aguero.
  • 9'
...and Van der Vaart takes the corner, and it's poor. Doesn't beat the first man.
  • 8'
End to end here as Van der Vaart collects the ball inside the Man City penalty area and, with his back to goal, manages to spin and release a hard, low effort towards Hart's goal that the England No. 1 can only parry for a corner...
  • 6'
A good start by both sides here, it must be said. Nasri seems determined to impress as again he storms through the middle but this time opts to pass rather than shoot so Silva takes over the reins and has a dig himself. It stings the gloves of Friedel and Dawson cleans up.
  • 5'
City coming into the game as Zabaleta combines well with Dzeko on the right-flank and the latter cuts inside, past Corluka, but drags his shot wide.
  • 4'
First sign of Man City as debutant Samir Nasri has a stab at goal, but Brad Friedel palms it away to safety.
  • 3'
Promising start from Spurs as Kranjcar combines well with Modric and finds enough space to have a pop from the edge of the area, but flies over.
  • 2'
...and action straight away here from Spurs as Assou-Ekotto powers down the left-hand side and his cut-back comes to Lennon but the young Englishman blashes wide of Hart's goal.
  • 1'
And we are off! Spurs get us underway at White Hart Lane.
  • Right then, now the pre-match ramblings are out of the way the teams are out. Mere minutes away from kick-off here.
  • For Man City, new £25m signing Samir Nasri makes his debut alongside the daunting front two of Dzeko and Aguero. Surprisingly attacking formation from Mancini. Definitely bold.
  • The main headline from the teamsheets is, without a doubt, the inclusion of Luka Modric in the starting line-up for Spurs. Unless you have been living under a rock for the past two months, you will be aware that the Croatian has been the subject of two bids from Chelsea. The player has subsequently had "his head turned", but the fierce stance from Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has, seemingly, forced Modric to keep his head down and keep plugging away.
  • Man City: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Clichy; Toure Yaya, Barry; Silva, Nasri; Aguero, Dzeko. Subs: Pantilimon, Richards, Milner, Johnson, Savic, Tevez, Balotelli.
  • Tottenham: Friedel; Corluka, Dawson, Kaboul, Assou-Ekotto; Lennon, Modric, Kranjcar, Bale; Van der Vaart; Crouch. Subs: Cudicini, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, Defoe, Bassong, Walker, Livermore.
  • First things first, those all important line-ups...
