First-choice strikers may have been missing for Craig Levein but David Goodwillie's confident performance and a star turn from young Barry Bannan got the job done
By George Ankers
Enjoyed a great view of the game without having to do anything.
The threat from the Lithuanian flanks was minimal, but Whittaker slipped up when they did make a rare foray down the left and allowed Radavicius to cross.
One or two moments where he betrayed his right-footedness but otherwise a decent display from the Sunderland full-back. Withdrawn with twenty minutes to go having picked up a slight knock.
Never needed to do too much at the back but provided a useful aerial threat from corners.
Guilty of a wayward pass that precipitated a Lithuanian counter soon before the break, and was lucky that Semberas did not make more of it.
Industrious and always on the lookout for an opportunity to burst forward from midfield and support Goodwillie.
He may be only just back from a long-term lay-off with a debilitating virus, but there was no excuse for the poor excuse for a penalty just before half-time. As composed as you would expect otherwise in the holding role.
Easily the most promising player for the home side in the first half, always eager to get the ball and whip it in. Impressed cutting in from the right and particularly with his delivery from set-pieces. A real plus.
Very much the quietest of the Scotland midfield as Bannan, Naismith and Cowie were all more effervescent around him. Later taken off to no one's great shock.
Showed no signs of fear on his first start for his country, and demonstrated some very impressive first touches and hold-ups as he caused problems for the Lithuanian back line.
Always willing to get forward and capped excellent understanding with Bannan to put away his cross soon after the break with a very good finish from a difficult position.
Came on for twenty minutes in place of Bardsley, for only his second competitive cap since his first nine years ago. Had little to do.
Came on just in time to join in the gradual panic as Scotland sought to hold on to their slim lead.
A late replacement for Bannan and had no time to impress.
Did what he had to to save Fletcher’s penalty even if it was poor, and generally dealt well with what was thrown at him.
Never dealt well with Bannan cutting inside from the right wing and allowed the youngster to dictate much of the game. It came as no great shock when he was sacrificed to bring on the captain Danilevicius after Naismith’s goal.
Put under a fair amount of pressure from the Scotland attacking force but generally stood firm and made some crucial interceptions.
Had some fight about him but, tellingly, he more often left it to Zaliukas to bail Lithuania out of tight spots.
If he had passed rather than shot when he was leading a three-on-one charge on the Scotland goal just before the penalty, Lithuania probably would have gone in in front. A moment of stupid selfishness that wasted a rare chance for his side. Later booked after some repeated fouling.
Had little opportunity to get forward with his team so pegged back but looked a useful crosser when given the chance.
Constantly booed by the Scottish support, apparently for diving to win a penalty in a past meeting of these sides, and possibly affected by that as he put in a mixed performance before being substituted.
Could not help his team get forward as they spent so much time occupied at the back, ending up quite anonymous.
Showed some energy but failed to really impose himself on the Scotland midfield.
His name rarely came up as the game passed him by, not unsurprisingly considering the amount of possession that Lithuania enjoyed in the Scotland half.
Was doing a solid job before a very silly handball gave away a penalty just before the break, and promptly removed at the interval.
Might have felt he had a point to prove as the dropped skipper brought off the bench but apart from one header he could have made more of, did neither better nor worse than those who replaced him.
Brought on at half-time to try and inspire a greater share of possession but disappeared and seemed a little unready.
Came on late on but could not find any more joy than his colleagues.
