Germany's squad has been hit by a number of injuries in recent weeks with Marco Reus, Sami Khedira, Mario Gomez all out of the game with Austria. In addition, Sven Bender has been forced to withdraw, meaning Simon Rolfes is the prime candidate to partner Schweinsteiger in the centre of the pitch.
Miroslav Klose is set to deputise for Gomez with Cacau as back-up, while Manuel Neuer is expected to retain his place in goal, ahead of Rob-Robert Zieler, who received his first call-up to the national team last week.
The most significant change in Didi Constantini's squad is the late inclusion of Marko Arnautovic, who after some poor performances - and questionable behaviour - was cast away from the national team. Andreas Ivanschitz and Roland Linz, however, have also failed to earn a call, while Roman Kienast is out with a fractured metatarsal.
Constantini recently stated that he is unlikely to make major changes to the starting line-up, despite the poor record of five defeats in six games this year.

The Bayern Munich man has always shined for Germany, and will look to replicate his fine preformance in the game against Kaiserslautern last Saturday against Austira.
A permanent fixture in Constantini's team, the Stuttgart striker will have to be on the top of his game if Austria are to get anything from this match.
Taking into account Austria's poor recent record, Germany should become the first nation to qualify for Euro 2012 with a win on Friday night in Gelsenkirchen.
