    Manuel Neuer

Could have caught a nap for long periods of the match. Comfortably handled the three shots that came his way and made no mistakes, though he nearly allowed Kukeyev's blast to beat him at the near post.

  • Dennis Aogo

    Dennis Aogo

An excellent performance from the left back, who despite being caught upfield once, proved his value to Loew's side. Relentless in his attack up the left side with Podolski, and very tidy with the ball. His pace gives him a distinct edge over Marcel Schmelzer.

  • Per Mertesacker

    Per Mertesacker

Guilty of being far too slow. Was given the runaround several times by Kukeyev, who nearly won a penalty. Generally passed well out of the back, but played Schweinsteiger into danger on one occasion.

  • Holger Badstuber

    Holger Badstuber

Put under minimal pressure, but won all of his challenges and positioned himself well. His performance vindicated Loew for selecting him ahead of Mats Hummels.

  • Philipp Lahm

    Philipp Lahm

An exemplary performance from the captain, who showed off his slalom dribbling skills on several occasions. Deserved an assist for his fine ball to Gomez, and ought to have scored early in the game after directing a glorious sequence with Mueller.

  • Lukas Podolski

    Lukas Podolski

Had the right ideas, but didn't appear as intensely focused as many of his teammates. His passes seemed to always be just behind their intended targets. His shots were just a bit off. Replaced after 65 minutes.

  • Sami Khedira

    Sami Khedira

Appeared a bit confused as to whether he should play deep or join the attack during the first half. He looked more comfortable after the break and ghosted into scoring position several times late in the game. Should have headed in the 4-0 on 82 minutes, but has to be credited for his unselfish play as he set up Klose for his late goal.

  • Mesut Özil

    Mesut Özil

Since moving to Real Madrid, he has only improved. Delivered a few gorgeous crosses, two of which assisted goals for Mueller. Always at the centre of the German attack, the former Bremen man was tidy in possession and kept the ball moving quickly. Truly has become the cornerstone of his country's attack.

  • Bastian Schweinsteiger

    Bastian Schweinsteiger

Was everywhere in the centre of the park as usual; he had an immense 147 touches of the ball and still only played 78 minutes. The Bayern man was in fine form especially early on; his delivery for Klose's opener was perfect. However, he earned jeers from the home fans for misplacing several passes after the break.

  • Thomas Müller

    Thomas Müller

Man of the match. Scored to make it 2-0 with a brilliant glancing header, and then made it 3-0 with a good finish. His understanding of Loew's system is perhaps his greatest asset; Mueller served as both a winger and a forward, and superbly made play after play at the edge of his penalty area.

  • Miroslav Klose

Miroslav Klose Top of the Match

Had two easy finishes to put away and took them comfortably. Excellent as usual in a Germany shirt, the veteran's movement created all sorts of problems for the Kazakh defence. On another day, he might have had a hat trick, but his brace nonetheless extends his fine run of form for country as he moves to within seven strikes of Gerd Mueller's record.

    Toni Kroos

Replaced Schweinsteiger for the final 12 minutes and played well in his minimal time. Had a hand in the fourth goal; it was his ball that set events in motion before Khedira was through on goal.

  • Mario Götze

    Mario Götze

The young attacker really is like a magnet to the ball; even at 18 years of age, his control and composure are stunning. Played for just 12 minutes, but had a remarkable 26 touches, completed 14 of 14 passes, and was involved in three efforts on goal. Has yet to fully develop his precision, but the numbers suggest a tremendously economical player.

  • Mario Gomez

    Mario Gomez

Very minimally effective in a system that simply is not suited to his style of play. Came on for the final 25 minutes and struggled to make an impact. Volleyed a decent effort wide, and touched the ball just seven times.

  • David Loria

    David Loria

Made no mistakes and pulled off a couple great saves from Klose and Podolski early in the match. Positioned himself well and was quick off his line to snuff out danger. The best player on a team that was out of their depth tonight.

  • Vladislav Chernyshov

    Vladislav Chernyshov

Made fewer mistakes than Abdulin, but still half of an immensely poor back line. Kazakhstan were never expected to keep a clean sheet, but many of the defensive mistakes made were elementary.

  • Renat Abdulin

Renat Abdulin Flop of the Match

A poor, poor match from the defensive leader, who never committed a foul, but made a slew of mistakes. A performance to forget.

  • Farkhadbek Irismetov

    2.00

    Farkhadbek Irismetov

Booked for a bad foul early and was fortunate not to be sent off after landing on Lahm's ankle in the second half. Beaten several times by the right back, as well as by Mueller.

  • Kazbek Geteriyev

    Kazbek Geteriyev

Too slow to the ball, too often left in the wake of the advancing German attack. The weakest point in a Kazakh midfield that had numbers, but lacked quality.

  • Anton Chichulin

    1.50

    Anton Chichulin

Struggled against the sheer pace and power of the overlapping Aogo, and was pinned back for most of the match. Had a speculative shot early on, but failed to test Neuer.

  • Ulan Konysbayev
    1
    4
    1.50

    Ulan Konysbayev

A bit nervous in possession; he gave the ball away too easily despite occasionally being in good positions to create play. Lost the vast majority of his 50-50 challenges.

  • Azat Nurgaliyev
    1
    5
    1.50

    Azat Nurgaliyev

Once tried to catch Neuer off his line with a speculative effort, but missed well over the bar. Struggled in defence and was hooked after an hour.

  • Kairat Nurdauletov

    3
    2.00

    Kairat Nurdauletov

Tackled hard in the centre of the park and won half his challenges. Guilty of committing a few fouls, but he at least broke up play. Saw little of the ball, but was tidy in possession. He was nonetheless out-run most of the time and spent long periods chasing shadows.

  • Sergei Khizhnichenko

    Sergei Khizhnichenko

A very isolated figure up front, the youngster almost beat Mertesacker to the ball early, and later had a good sniff at goal but fired a rather tame shot at Neuer.

  • Nurbol Zhumaskaliyev

    1.50

    Nurbol Zhumaskaliyev

Offered almost no support whatsoever for Khizhnichenko, and was replaced at half time.

    Zhambyl Kukeyev

A thorn in Mertesacker's side over the final half hour. Burned the German defender for pace a couple times and came close to winning a penalty. Almost caught Neuer out as he fired a strong effort off the left post.

  • Maksat Baizhanov

    Maksat Baizhanov

Came in at the half and added a bit more potency up front. Took a couple of shots but neither bothered Neuer. Might have been a hero on another day.

  • Sergei Ostapenko

    Sergei Ostapenko

A late substitution for the final nine minutes.
