FULL TIME. MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 SUNDERLAND. Referee Howard Webb brings the game to a close and I think Sunderland will be grateful that he put them out of their misery. Goals from Johnson, Tevez, Silva, Patrick Vieira and Yaya Toure were enough to see City comfortably secure three points and rise to third in the table, ten points off leaders Manchester United.
  • 90' + 2'
    Yellow Card Michael Turner
  • 90' + 2'
Balotelli wins a free-kick as he desperately searches for a goal of his own in this rout. He steps up and takes the free-kick himself only to see Mignolet superbly save his effort that is sailing into the top right-hand corner.
  • 90' + 1'
Zenden tests Hart with a vicious drive from range but his clean strike goes straight at the grateful keeper.
  • 90'
    Two minutes added on.
  • 89'
Yaya Toure looks to be carrying in injury as he clutches his ribs in the middle of the park. That would be a huge blow to City's European run-in if they lose him as he has shown his world-class ability today.
  • 87'
The hunger of Mancini's squad is shown as substitute Wright-Phillips chases down Elmohamady down the right-wing despite his side comfortably winning Wright-Phillips realises he has to prove himself in order to break into the starting eleven in the future.
  • 85'
    Yellow Card Patrick Vieira
  • 85'
Elmohamady somehow completely misses the target with a free header from eight yards out. Sunderland really can't do anything right today!
  • 83'
Fantastic ball in from Shaun Wright-Phillips as he fizzes in a cross towards the near post that Tevez meets but can only strike the ball wide.
  • 81'
Tevez loses his temper and barges into Michael Turner and recieves a yellow card. Really no need for that from Tevez with the game already won.
  • 78'
    SubstitutionDavid Silva Shaun Wright-Phillips
  • 78'
Mcgivern tries his luck from range and you can hardly blame him as City are absolutely cruising. Sunderland fans are leaving in their numbers and the players look like they just want the game to be over. Manchester City have showed their class this afternoon and Sunderland simply haven't turned up.
  • 76'
Elmohamady tries to salvage something from the game for Sunderland as he bombs forward and finds Colback who fires a shot over the crossbar.
  • 73'
    Goal Yaya Touré
  • 73'
    SubstitutionSulley Muntari Jack Colback
  • 73'
GOAL!! MANCHESTER CITY!! YAYA TOURE!! MANCHESTER CITY 5-0 SUNDERLAND. This is getting embarrassing for Sunderland now. Yaya Toure latches on to a terrible back pass from Lee Cattermole and slots the ball past Mignolet to net Manchester City's fifth goal of the game and add to Steve Bruce's misery.
  • 70'
    SubstitutionD. Boyata Ryan McGivern
  • 70'
Roberto Mancini gives a debut to 21 year-old Ryan Mcgivern as he comes on for Dedryck Boyata.
  • 67'
    Assist Joleon Lescott
  • 67'
    Goal Patrick Vieira
  • 67'
GOAL!! MANCHESTER CITY!! VIEIRA!! MANCHESTER CITY 4-0 SUNDERLAND. Sunderland are all over the place and Patrick Vieira has scored with his first touch! Kolarov smashes the ball across goal and the substitute just throws himself at the ball and it cannons off his knee and just goes over the line despite Mignolet's best efforts to keep it out.
  • 66'
    SubstitutionAdam Johnson Patrick Vieira
  • 66'
Adam Johnson recieves a standing ovation from his home fans as he is replaced by Patrick Vieira.
  • 63'
    Assist Mario Balotelli
  • 63'
    Goal David Silva
  • 63'
GOAL!! MANCHESTER CITY!! SILVA!! MANCHESTER CITY 3-0 SUNDERLAND. Game set and match Manchester City. Tevez lays the ball across for Balotelli whose swinging shot is blocked, but the ball falls kindly for David Silva who gambled that Balotelli's shot would be parried or blocked and he was rewarded for his initiative as he toe poked the loose ball past Mignolet from six yards.
  • 62'
Sunderland are throwing men forward but just can't seem to get anything going, and if any team is to score next it will most likely be City who look like they can open Sunderland up whenever they please.
  • 59'
    SubstitutionJordan Henderson Boudewijn Zenden
  • 59'
Steve Bruce tries to freshen up his side by bringing off the poor Jordan Henderson and replacing him with Boudewijn Zenden.
  • 57'
Balotelli shows his pace and power as he sprints past John Mensah down the right-hand side before firing a shot from a tight angle that Mignolet parries away. The game is getting quite stretched now as Sunderland realise they have to throw extra bodies forward if they are to get back into this game.
  • 54'
Wonderful football from City. After good work from Boyata and Tevez, the lively pair of Johnson and Silva link up beautifully. Johnson lays it off to Silva before sprinting in behind the Sunderland defence, Silva spots his run and finds him with a fabulous dinked ball over the top that Johnson meets first time on the volley, only to see his effort saved by Mignolet and the linesman raising his flag for offside, despite replays showing that the goalscorer was level with the last defender.
  • 52'
Henderson sums up Sunderland's afternoon with a woeful cross that eludes everyone after a superb run from Sessegnon. Sessegnon has been one of the few bright sparks of a lacklustre Sunderand side.
  • 50'
Manchester City win a corner of their own that Adam Johnson takes short to David Silva before the Spaniard returns the ball back to Johnson. Johnson looks up and has many targets to aim at in the middle, but his cross is poor and is cleared by the Sunderland defence.
  • 48'
Early opportunity for Sunderland as Sessegnon wins a corner off Joleon Lescott. Once again the delivery into the penalty area lets them down and the chance is gone. Sunderland's final ball has been extremely poor his afternoon.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionPhil Bardsley Ahmed El Mohamady
  • 46'
Back underway here in Manchester. One change for Sundelrand as Ahmed Elmohamady replaces Phil Bardsley.
  • 45' + 1'
HALF TIME. MANCHESTER CITY 2-0 SUNDERLAND. Howard Webb brings the first half to a close and Manchester City have a comfortable two goal lead thanks to an Adam Johnson strike and a Carlos Tevez penalty. Sunderland have it all to do in the second half as City look destined to go above Chelsea and into third place.
  • 45'
One minute added on at the end of the first half.
  • 43'
Balotelli plays a poor pass out of play looking for Tevez as City had four attackers to Sunderland's three defenders. A typical example of the enigmatic Italian's unpredictability.
  • 40'
Sunderland have had 59% of the possession in the last ten minutes as City have completely taken their foot off the gas, allowing Sunderland to get back into this game. Their lead is still comfortable, but you do feel that Mancini's approach is to protect what they already have instead of killing the game off by continuing to bomb forward.
  • 38'
Asamoah Gyan, who has had a quiet game suddenly bursts into life making a chance out of absolutely nothing. The Ghanaian flicking the ball up and striking a left footed looping volley that worries Joe Hart but goes a foot wide of Hart's left hand post. He will need to give a performance similar to his majestic effort at Wembley against England last week if Sunderland are to get anything from this one.
  • 36'
    Yellow Card Aleksandar Kolarov
  • 36'
Terrible challenge from Kolarov as he clatters into the back of Sessegnon to give away a needless free-kick to Sunderland deep in the opposition half. Sessegnon takes it himself and the delivery is extremely poor. A big waste of a good chance for Steve Bruce's men.
  • 34'
Balotelli tests Mignolet with a tame effort from outside the area. The temperamental Italian is starting to find his rhythm after a sluggish start.
  • 32'
Johnson curls in a free-kick towards Balotelli and City are unlucky not to have the second penalty of the match as the recently booked John Mensah is all over the Italian. Despite staring right at the incident, referee Howard Webb doesn't see a problem and waves play on.
  • 31'
    Yellow Card John Mensah
  • 29'
First chance of the game for Sunderland as Sessegnon gets to the byeline and cuts the ball back for Welbeck, but the Black Cats forward completely miscues his effort and the chance goes begging.
  • 26'
Howard Webb somehow misses a blatant handball from Michael Turner, luckily for him though his linesman spotted the defenders handball and City were rewarded a free-kick 30 yards from goal. Kolarov steps up but his effort is poor much to the dismay of Balotelli who wanted to take the free-kick himself. I think he may get the next one!
  • 24'
The game has calmed down in the last few minutes as Manchester City try their best to slow the game down to keep hold of their comfortable lead.
  • 21'
Some confusion in the City penalty area as Joe Hart nearly takes out his own man as both he and Vincent Kompany go for the same ball after the ball is launched into the area. Luckily for Hart Kompany headed the ball clear, otherwise it could have been a huge mistake from the England keeper.
  • 20'
Sunderland are in a state of shock after a storming start from Roberto Mancini's men. They're trying to get a foothold in this game but City, Adam Johnson in particular, are on their game today.
  • 17'
Steve Hewlett talks about the craze that has taken over Eastlands this season: "Once again the City fans turn their backs on the action to perform the "Posnan" A great tribute to the Polish fans who visited eastlands this season and their late legend, Neil Young."
  • 15'
    Penalty Goal Carlos Tévez
  • 14'
    Yellow Card Phil Bardsley
  • 14'
GOAL!! MANCHESTER CITY!! TEVEZ!! MANCHESTER CITY 2-0 SUNDERLAND. Disaster for Sunderland. Tevez dusts himself down and just about scores the second goal of the game. The ball creeps into the bottom right-hand corner via the hand of Mignolet and the inside of the post to the frustration of the Sunderland keeper. It's a long way back for Steve Bruce's men now.
  • 13'
PENALTY FOR MANCHESTER CITY. Bardsley brings down Carlos Tevez and the Argentinian will step up to try and double his sides advantage.
  • 11'
Sunderland try to reply instantly as Gyan feeds Welbeck in behind the City defence, but the ever consistent Vincent Kompany comfortably shrugs off the Manchester United loanee and ushers the ball out for a goal-kick.
  • 9'
    Assist Yaya Touré
  • 9'
    Goal Adam Johnson
  • 9'
GOAL!! MANCHESTER CITY!! ADAM JOHNSON!! MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 SUNDERLAND. Super goal. Moments after Mario Balotelli had a fierce shot blocked, Adam Johnson plays a fine one-two with Yaya Toure before smashing the ball past Mignolet and into the bottom right-hand corner. Great move and a fantastic start for the home side.
  • 8'
Steve Hewlett describes Steve Bruce's less than welcoming reception from the home fans: "As one would expect the City fans are already giving Steve Bruce plenty from the sidelines. They're not going to let an ex-United skipper have a peaceful afternoon are they?"
  • 6'
Early corner for Sunderland as Sessegnon takes on Boyata down the left hand side and earns his side the first corner of the game. The corner comes to nothing though as Jordan Henderson's delivery is extremely poor.
  • 5'
Nothing really happening at the moment as both sides are easing their way into this one. Manchester City are dominating possession but are content to pass it around at the back in the early stages.
  • 3'
Steve Hewlett is our man in Manchester today, and has found some positive quotes from Roberto Mancini in todays match programme: “We are where we would want to be at this late stage of the season, vying for success on two fronts. For the time being we must forget about the trip to Wembley later in the month and concentrate all out energies on this game against Sunderland and the trip to Liverpool after that.”
  • 1'
Steve Hewlett gives his thoughts on the importance of this half-time team talk for both managers. " What Steve Bruce says to his men now is vital. An early goal and it’s game on, but another City strike and it’s curtains. Mancini on the other hand has the option to stick or twist."
