Player Ratings: Tottenham 3-3 Arsenal

For the second time this season Spurs come from behind against Arsene Wenger's side, as a second half Van der Vaart penalty saw the points shared at White Hart Lane

By Jamie Dunn at White Hart Lane

  • Gomes

    Gomes

Beaten three times in the first half. Perhaps could have done better with Nasri's effort from 20 yards, but could do little about Walcott's opener. Saved well to deny Van Persie initially, but was left helpless by Dawson. Another case of sublime and ridiculous all in one game as he flapped at crosses but saved magnificently to deny Fabregas.

  • Benoit Assou-Ekotto

    Benoit Assou-Ekotto

Was kept on his toes by Walcott, who ran the lines inbetween the full-back and his central defenders expertly, causing confusion in the process. Managed to get forward more in the second half an posed a threat.

  • William Gallas

    William Gallas

No match in the pace department for Walcott or Van Persie. Looked eager to score but twice failed to hit the target. Made some important blocks and tackles.

  • Michael Dawson

    Michael Dawson

Usually solid, the centre-back allowed Van Persie two bites of the cherry as he scored Arsenal's third. Humbled by a Walcott nutmeg, but otherwise solid in the challenge, if troubled by the pace of the opposition attack.

  • Vedran Corluka

Vedran Corluka Flop of the Match

Could not catch Walcott for Arsenal's opener, but superb pass found Van der Vaart for the equaliser. Struggled with the movement of Nasri, twinned with the attacking runs of Clichy. Replaced by Kaboul and it was easy to see why.

  • Gareth Bale
    17
    52
    3.00

    Gareth Bale

Moved into various positions in an attempt to make an impact but had a quiet first half as he was unable to fully stretch his legs. Replaced by Lennon at half time after picking up a knock.

  • Luka Modric
    74
    26
    3.50

    Luka Modric

Attempted to test Szczesny early, but could not hit the target. Showed trademark tidy feet to create another opening but shot straight at the Arsenal goalkeeper. Felt he should have had a penalty when he was blocked off by Djourou, but it could have been given either away. Saw an effort brilliantly saved by Szczesny from close range.

  • Tom Huddlestone

    27
    3.50

    Tom Huddlestone

Lost possession cheaply in the build-up to Walcott's opening goal and gave the ball away on a couple of occasions early on, but redeemed himself with a rasping effort to pull Spurs back into the game.

  • Rafael van der Vaart

    38

Rafael van der Vaart Top of the Match

Timed his run perfectly to receive Corluka's pass and beat Szczesny. Was unlucky to see his dipping left-footed effort tipped wide by an excellent save by the young goalkeeper, but beat him with ease from the spot. Looked like the Van der Vaart Tottenham signed in the summer, showing wonderful skill.

  • Roman Pavlyuchenko
    25
    39
    3.00

    Roman Pavlyuchenko

Movement and link-up play was decent enough, but made little impact as an attacking threat in the opening stages. Showed some nice touches in the second half, but was ultimately replaced by Sandro.

  • Peter Crouch
    27
    37
    3.00

    Peter Crouch

Won the majority of headers in the box and troubled the Arsenal defenders, but could not find the target with any real purpose in the first half. Had it not been for Szczesny he might have been on the scoresheet but his header was tipped over.

Substitutions

  • Younes Kaboul

    Younes Kaboul

Came on in place of Corluka at half time. Looked more confident going forward and nullified the threat on Tottenham's right to better effect.

  • Sandro
    32
    21

    Sandro

Came on for Pavlyuchenko. Looked compose and could have won the game but drilled straight at Szczesny.

  • Aaron Lennon
    49
    22
    3.50

    Aaron Lennon

Replaced the injured Bale for the second half. Showed a tendency to cut in from the left hand side as is expected, but saw more of the ball than Bale and looked more of a threat overall. Was clipped by Szczesny for the penalty after showing blistering pace.

  • Wojciech Szczesny

    25
    4.00

    Wojciech Szczesny

Little he could do about Van der Vaart's goal, but twice got the better of Gareth Bale in heavy physical encounters to stamp his authority on the game. Made an excellent save to tip Van der Vaart's second effort around his far post. Nearly caught out by a header across the box but Lennon failed to capitalise, but brought the winger down for the penalty and was beaten. Saved excellently at close range from a Modric shot, as he made crucial saves throughout.

  • Gael Clichy

    25
    3.00

    Gael Clichy

Worried Corluka with his support of Nasri. Was booked for a challenge on Van der Vaart late in the first half. Found himself up against Kaboul regularly in the second half and was troubled far more.

  • Laurent Koscielny
    37
    24
    3.00

    Laurent Koscielny

Yet to forge a solid partnership with Djourou and lacked composure at times, but a decent enough display from the Frenchman despite being on the receiving end of two goals.

  • Johan Djourou
    41
    24
    3.00

    Johan Djourou

Nearly left embarrassed by Pavlyuchenko in the first half after the Russian beat him, but was crafty enough to block off Modric in the penalty area with minimal contact. Booked for clattering into the Croatian with a challenge early in the second half.

  • Bacary Sagna
    53
    16
    3.00

    Bacary Sagna

Did well to contain Gareth Bale for the majority of the first half, but was faced with a different challenge in Lennon for the second 45.

  • A. Diaby
    33
    38
    3.00

    A. Diaby

A quiet but composed first half, had a hand in Nasri's goal. Looked to be carrying a knock when replaced by Wilshere in the opening minutes of the second half.

  • Cesc Fàbregas
    89
    17
    3.50

    Cesc Fàbregas

Was at the centre of Arsenal's most productive play as ever, finding Walcott with a perfect through ball after just five minutes. Entered into an excellent, well-contested battle with Luka Modric.

  • Samir Nasri
    84
    13
    3.50

    Samir Nasri

Showed excellent awareness and movement for his goal, coming in from the left hand side to fire past Gomes. Quieter in the second half and was replaced by Arshavin.

Booked early in the second half for a late challenge. Was overran by both Modric and Van der Vaart in the second half as Spurs came back into the game.

  • Theo Walcott

    Theo Walcott

Raced onto Fabregas' pass to beat the offside trap and slotted past Gomes with poise. Came close after beating the back four for pace again but fired wide. Nutmegged Dawson beautifully in the second half but couldn't find Fabregas with the resulting pass. Replaced by Bendtnder with less than ten minutes to play.

  • Robin van Persie

    Robin van Persie

Needed two bites of the cherry to score the third, but reacted quicker than Dawson to follow up his initial header.
