UEFA Under-19 Championships Final Player Ratings: France 2-1 Spain
Goal.com rates the players on show in the final...
By Gary Niblock
His defensive positioning was generally sound. When beaten once by Planas, recovered his composure to deal with the second attack by Pacheco. France's most consistent player throughout the match.
A real mixed bag as he was sloppy and unimaginative in possession but defended excellently for the most part. Used his bulk well against Rodrigo and made some timely interceptions. He produced an excellent tackle on Rodrigo to prevent a repeat of the first goal seconds into the second half.
Excellent reading of the game, getting his foot in but was guilty of ceding possession as France lacked fluency. However he raised his game when his side needed it.
Not the best first half for the captain who needed to lead from the front and he picked up booking. As a result his game was stifled as he endeavoured to avoid a sending off and was fortunate to last the distance.
Ploughed a lone furrow as those behind him didn't supply him with the necessary service. Like all his team-mates, he was more lively after the break.
He was admittedly not helped by those behind him but looked nervous when he did get a few touches. Was replaced at half-time having picked up an injury but was in any case a candidate to come off given his lacklustre showing.
Though the crowd willed him on, he was often wasteful in possession but his magnificent run six minutes from end was the pivotal moment of the final.
A marked man on the end of some rough challenges by the Spanish. He did, however, take his goal superbly and helped ignite his side into action.
The 'keeper didn't cover himself in glory with the opening goal with poor positional sense nor did he anticipate Rodrigo's early shot. France definitely won despite his showing.
Not as attacking as Nego and it showed as his crossing was poor when he did manage to get into attacking areas.
Lost Rodrigo for a brief moment which led to the opening goal. Had a much easier time once Rodrigo departed the action.
The Lyon starlet made an almost instant impact, superbly setting up Gilles Sunu's equaliser with a terrific pass.
Replaced Sunu with just over 20 minutes to go and was instantly at home. He produced some fine pieces of skill and his far-post runs troubled Planas. Got his just rewards with the winning goal.
Had a quiet first half as Spain enjoyed so much possession and France barely had a sniff at goal. Could not be faulted for either goal and pulled off several impressive reaction stops.
Helped by the fact that no pressure was put on him, he coped well with Bakambu. However was beaten for pace by Sunu for the equaliser. Redeemed himself with a strong challenge on Kakuta.
Some fine distribution from the back but looked less sure-footed once the French attackers got into their stride. Was guilty of a number of rash challenges as he was run ragged in the second period.
As ever comfortable in possession but was exposed by the clever movement of Lacazette and he didn't cover himself in glory for the second French goal.
As ever forayed forward causing problems for Kolodziejczak as he combined with Keko. He caused a few problems in the first half but was more subdued after the interval.
Started brightly, running with the ball and finding space well. Though he was comfortable wherever he received the ball, his profligate finishing may well have cost Spain the tournament.
Keko was as dangerous as always and enjoyed coming in off the right flank, constantly wrong-footing Kolodziejczak. Though he didn't quite hit the heights of his previous performances, it was a notable surprise when he was substituted.
One of the stars of the tournament, he was never afraid to try the killer ball and threaded some excellent passes through the French midfield as well as not being averse to putting his foot in.
A colossus in the middle of the park, was acutely aware of the need to shut down the space of France's attacking midfield trio and carried out his job to the letter.
Quieter than normal but he played a gorgeous pass with the outside of his right boot through to Rodrigo for the opening goal. Faded in the second half.
Took his goal superbly and his deft first touch allied to his willing running into channels enabled the Spanish to have that presence upfield.
A late replacement who had next to no impact.
Replaced Rodrigo upfront but never carried the threat of Spain's No.9.
Spain's supersub never got into the game as his side were overcome in the closing stages.
