Gave away a penalty early on, but redeemed himself slightly when he saved from Higuain. Was in no-man's land when he rushed out to clear and gifted Higuain with a chance from 40 yards. Positioning questioned throughout. Better second half but damage had already been done.
Unable to get into the game much. Looked to change that in the second half but was frustrated by Madrid’s defence.
Was weak in defence all game and his evening was summed up when he gave away the second penalty for a clumsy block on Di Maria.
Got forward well a couple of times but was overrun in defence. Forward running in the second half offered something but his final ball was lacking in quality.
Looked solid at times but weak at others. Nearly allowed Madrid in for a second when he took too many touches. When Los Blancos pressurised he failed to cope.
Bright start, looking to shift the ball quickly. Vanished as the game progressed and grew disinterested.
Looked a force as an attacking threat and had some decent early shots. Came close to equalising just before half-time. Subbed after 45 minutes.
Positioned himself well but was easily beaten by passes around him and he was lacking any pace. Weak in challenges when he needed to win the ball.
Good effort from far and looked to add spark to his side’s attacks. Did well and ran tirelessly. Defensive duties were not overlooked and he helped his side out.
Ran constantly and posed problems as he came wide. When he did, he added quality to the crosses but then there was only Llorente in the area.
Physical presence was important but the service was lacking which limited his impact on the game. Decent chances late on to pressure Madrid but didn’t take them.
Made some smart saves in the first half and added stability to his side. Little to do but when he was called into action he did it well.
Moved the ball well and came forward to good effect. Made one clearing header under substantial pressure that was world class.
Was under pressure early on and was lucky to get away with several poor challenges. Showed good awareness to see out danger from crosses but all in all an easy night for the Portuguese.
Did well tracking back, and showed his defensive abilities with a solid display despite a bad challenge earning him a booking. Didn’t show as much attacking intent as he usually does but Madrid didn’t need it tonight.
Superb display and was the reason for Madrid’s clean sheet. He defended valiantly, clearing dangerous balls, rising highest with his head and making covering tackles.
Distributed the ball well from defence and began many of Madrid’s attacks. Made several important interceptions and worked hard for his team on a rare start.
Scored twice from the spot, taking them both well. Showed some masterful touches, particularly a through ball for Higuain with the outside of his boot. Will be pleased to have got 90 minutes under his belt.
Stayed in the middle of the park breaking up play for much of the game. A mere bystander at times but wasn’t needed. When he was, he used his physicality to win the ball back.
Á. di María
Lively running from the Argentine and to good effect. Won both penalties, neither of which can be debated. Showed awareness with a great chip that drifted wide of the post.
Strong at closing down early on and that set the tone for the game. Worked hard and got forward well. Great pass for Ronaldo’s goal which ended the game.
Still coming back from injury and he lacked match sharpness when he was one-on-one early on allowing the ‘keeper to save – usually he would have buried it without hesitation. Tried a volley from 40 yards with Iraizoz out of his goal but couldn’t control it.
- 13 Raúl
- 10 De Marcos
- 20 Aitor Ocio
Quiet after his second half introduction as he looked to help his side get back into the contest. Failed to change the game as he wasted the ball with poor service.
Set piece deliveries posed problems and looked to drive forward well. Lacked the final delivery from open play.
Added some needed width that pushed Madrid but the away side were never troubled. Nearly volleyed home but lacked the ability to take the shot on.
- 23 Díaz de Cerio
- 25 J. Dudek
- 2 Ricardo Carvalho
- 12 Marcelo
Came on to steady the ship late in the match and did exactly that. Easy game and keeps him fit and fresh ahead of a testing time for Madrid.
- 23 M. Özil
- 6 E. Adebayor
Second half sub and Madrid just upped their game when he was on the pitch. Wanted to score and he did so with a great finish.
