The Bosnian goalkeeper looked solid until he let Richards' shot under his body and into the net when it should have been a routine save. Up to that moment his handling had looked accomplished.

  • Andy Wilkinson

    Andy Wilkinson

Solid first half as he stuck to his task against the threat of Balotelli. Replaced through injury on the hour mark.

  • Robert Huth

    Robert Huth

Could easily have conceded a penalty for diving in on Milner and then was sold far too easily by Richards' dummy as City took the lead. Fired over first-half chance from seven yards as he couldn't quite wrap his foot around the ball enough.

  • Ryan Shawcross

    Ryan Shawcross

A strong performance at the heart of the Stoke defence as he denied Carlos Tevez room to have a say in the game. Headed over crossbar from six yards after mishit Etherington shot.

  • Danny Collins

    Danny Collins

Looked comfortable and forced the dangerous Silva inside in search of possession.

  • Matthew Etherington

Matthew Etherington Top of the Match

Looked full of confidence as he ran at Richards, showing an ability to both take the ball down the line and cut inside. Latched on to ball in first-half but denied twice by Hart as Stoke pushed for opening goal and finally rewarded for excellent performance as he kept his head to score late leveller.

  • Rory Delap

    Rory Delap

Sat in the middle of the Stoke midfield and helped them control the game in the first half. Long throws were always a threat, as ever.

  • Dean Whitehead

    Dean Whitehead

Snapped into early tackles and his workrate set the tone as Stoke pressed City high up the pitch.

  • Jermaine Pennant

    3.00

    Jermaine Pennant

Surprise inclusion in the starting line-up after suffering all week with a hamstring problem. Looked sharp in the early stages and was just off target following neat turn. Injury took its toll towards the end of the first half and he was replaced by Tuncay at the break.

  • Ricardo Fuller

    3.50

    Ricardo Fuller

Hooked volley just wide and then scuffed off target with his weaker left foot after great link up with Jones. Had joy cutting in from the left and was a real danger. Looked disappointed when he was replaced by Walters.

  • Kenwyne Jones

    Kenwyne Jones

Let the City defenders know they were in a battle with his aerial threat, especially from set-pieces and Delap throws. Seemed to tire late on as he became more static but produced vital flick-on in build up to equaliser.

Replaced injured Wilkinson in 63rd minute and slotted in comfortably.

  • Tuncay Şanlı

    Tuncay Şanlı

Replaced Pennant at half-time and kept trying to unlock the door until genius touch for Etherington's equaliser.

  • Jonathan Walters

    Jonathan Walters

Added much needed energy after replacing Fuller 15 minutes from time.

  • Joe Hart

    Joe Hart

Had a busy afternoon and did not always look comfortable under Delap's long throws but kept plugging away. Excellent awareness and reactions with double save to deny Etherington and will perhaps be disappointed he could not keep out the winger's late equaliser.

  • Micah Richards
    8
    2
    3.00

    Micah Richards

Drafted in for the suspended Zabaleta and looked rusty against the dribbling skills of Etherington. Made up for it with the turn and shot of a striker to give City the lead.

  • Kolo Toure

    4
    3.00

    Kolo Toure

The Ivorian was smaller than both of the Stoke strikers and it showed as he got caught under high balls into the box. Nevertheless, made some important last-ditch challenges.

  • Vincent Kompany
    2
    6
    3.00

    Vincent Kompany

Bullied by Jones in the first half and too often caught flat-footed. Improved after the break as City tightened up in defence.

  • Aleksandar Kolarov
    6
    5
    3.00

    Aleksandar Kolarov

Assured in defence against the dangerous Pennant and then Tuncay but offered little going forward other than superb low cross which Balotelli could not convert.

  • David Silva
    11

    3.00

    David Silva

Stoke is a long way from Valencia but the City playmaker still oozed class when he got on the ball with his movement and passing. One of the only City players who seemed to have a bit of time on the ball, but he didn't see enough of it.

  • James Milner
    0
    4
    3.00

    James Milner

Playing in a more central role than he has been accustomed to this season but produced a typically workmanlike performance as City battled hard. Crucial block on the line to deny Stoke a goal.

  • Nigel De Jong
    5

    Nigel De Jong

Just the game for the Dutchman and seemed to enjoy the midfield battle against Stoke's equally combative midfielders.

  • Gareth Barry

    6
    3.00

    Gareth Barry

Decent performance from the England international but nothing more. He was not afforded time to pick his passes but his positioning was good.

  • Mario Balotelli
    7
    10
    3.00

    Mario Balotelli

Looked a threat and showed some classy touches but the Italian forward is an enigma. Too prone to diving and getting involved in petty battles. Went close with crisp strike just after the break.

  • Carlos Tévez
    13
    14
    2.50

Carlos Tévez Flop of the Match

It's unlikely that the Argentine striker will have another game as quiet as this all season. He says he's fed up with football and it looked like it as he failed to have any impact on the game.

Substitutions

  • Adam Johnson

Replaced Milner eight minutes from time but had no impact.

    Jo

    Added time replacement for Balotelli.
