FULL TIME: Liverpool 2-2 Sunderland - a less than satisfactory performance for Liverpool is salvaged once again by Steven Gerrard. Sunderland were perhaps the better side and with Darren Bent's second goal putting them 2-1 up, manager Steve Bruce may have expected them to ride out the storm. That's it from me, Eliot Rothwell, stay with for all the post-match reaction to today's games.

Dan Agger misses a golden opportunity to win the match in the last minute of the contest. The Liverpool defender heads impossibly wide from close range as Sunderland employ time-wasting tactics by bringing on Bolo Zended.
  • 90' + 3'
Liverpool very nearly get the winner that they are searching for. Agger knocks-down a right-wing cross but David N'Gog is unable to connect with the ball as the Sunderland 'keeper, Mignolet, is knocked to the floor.

The fourth official signals that six minutes of added time are to be played. The reaction of the Liverpool crowd indicates that they are happy to play out for the draw. Would they have said that at the start of the match?

The excellent Steed Malbranque departs as the Paraguayan World Cup star Christian Riveros enters the field of play. Malbranque looks battle-weary as he takes up his seat on the Sunderland bench.

Another wasted chance from Liverpool's Glen Johnson. Dirk Kuyt created an opening for the right-back but his strike, from the edge of the area, again falls wide of Mignolet's goal.

The excellent Lee Cattermole, fresh from a two game suspension, shows desire and fight as he disposes two Liverpool players before striding forward with the ball. After a number of dismissals already this season, the former Wigan man has delivered for his side.

    SubstitutionDanny Welbeck Asamoah Gyan
  • 80'
Liverpool's emphasis on the attack is leaving them continually exposed at the back as the record signing Asamoah Gyan comes on in the place of Danny Welbeck. Welbeck, a Manchester United player, is greeted by a chorus of boos as he ironically applauds them.
  • 76'
Mignolet palms away a fierce David N'Gog shot in a rare call to arms for the Sunderland 'keeper. The ball then falls to Joe Cole but his shot is blocked by a brave Phil Bardsley. Sunderland are let off the hook as the Liverpool attack gains pace.
  • 75'
    Yellow Card Steven Gerrard

Stuart Atwell blows up for a foul on Danny Welbeck. The Sunderland players surround him as replays show that he was caught by a Steven Gerrard elbow. The Sunderland players, and coaching staff, are left unsatisfied as Gerrard is shown a yellow card by Atwell.
  • 72'
The fans let out an almighty cry of disgust but, for the first time today it's not directed at the home team. The heckles are directed the way of the referee as he fails to give, what Liverpool fans though was, an obvious foul on David N'Gog
  • 70'
Gerrard's goal seems to have reinvigorated both the Liverpool fans and the players. The men in red have improved the pace of the game and the tenacity of the tackling since the scores were leveled.
  • 67'
A clash of heads results in both Martin Skrtel and Jamie Carragher lying on the floor. Skrtel appears to have come off the best as he remains on the pitch whilst Carragher retreats to the dressing room for stitches.

A great ball from a deep-lying Steven Gerrard finds Glen Johnson on the right-hand side. The Liverpool full-back proceeds to skip past his man before giving up the opportunity to play the square ball to one of his colleagues. The groans from the Anfield crowd illustrate the, all too regular, bad decision making of the England international
  • 54'
In other inadequate Liverpool performance related news: Sunderland seem to be totally in control of the ball and the general tempo of the match. Steed Malbranque has been very creative when in possession as the movement of Jordan Henderson has allowed the Frenchman to pick a pass on a number of occasions
