It's all over here as Brazil have crashed out of the World Cup! The Netherlands have defeated the World Cup favourites 2-1 after coming from a goal down. The Oranje march on while Brazil coach Dunga is left speechless on the touchline. The Netherlands have qualified for the semifinals. From me and the rest of the Goal.com team here in Port Elizabeth, it's goodbye for now.
Oh, what a chance that was! Robben was unmarked inside the area as the ball was passed to him from the byline but he couldn't control it!
Brazil depressingly lack ideas at the moment and indeed they have looked short of imagination in the second half.
Three minutes of added time have been awarded. Three minutes for 10-man Brazil to score the equaliser and take the match into extra-time.
Daniel Alves has a chance with a freekick now. ALVES!!!! What a disappointing freekick that was as he could hit only the wall. Minutes are slipping away from the South Americans.
DIRK KUYT!!!! The Holland midfielder goes on a brilliant run as he skips past the challenges of two Brazilians including Lucio but he is eventually tackled marvelously by Juan.
Kaka takes the ball away from his marker on the left side, runs with the ball and takes a shot on the Dutch goal from an acute angle but it is turned out for a corner.
Substitution Robin van Persie Klaas-Jan Huntelaar
SNEIJDER!!! The Inter midfielder 'steals' the ball from Van Persie inside the Brazil penalty area and goes for a shot himself but it is saved by Julio Cesar with ease.
Two chances in a minute for Brazil. First Lucio's shot on the Dutch goal is turned out for a corner, from which the Dutch defence is put under pressure but Kuyt heads the ball away for another corner.
Robin Van Persie's freekick sails way over the Brazil crossbar. It seemed as if he were trying to take a rugby shot there!
The Dutch launch a breakaway move now as Sneijder does some good work but the final ball placed for Kuyt is too far away for the Liverpool midfielder.
Substitution Luis Fabiano Nilmar
Brazil could be on their way out of the World Cup. Down to ten men, they desperately need to find some inspiration from somewhere. After all, they are 2-1 down too. However, the South Americans have not looked sharp in attack so far in the second half.
Yellow Card André Ooijer
Red Card Felipe Melo
RED CARD! Felipe Melo has been sent off for a tackle on Robben!
20 minutes left for Brazil to come up with an answer.
The corner is flicked on by Dirk Kuyt and Sneijder heads the ball into the net from just yards out. The Dutch were 1-0 down at the break but they are now 2-1 up. Can Brazil stage a comeback?
GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! WESLEY SNEIJDER HAS SCORED!!!! Netherlands lead 2-1!
Goal Wesley Sneijder
KAKA!!!!!!! A cross is crafted in from the right that is not taken care of by the Dutch defence and Kaka is nicely set up on the edge of the Dutch penalty box but he cannot find the net. But it was a great chance for Brazil to take the lead.
Yellow Card Nigel De Jong
Robin Van Persie tries to find the Brazil goal with a shot but he cannot get his shot past the bodies in front of him.
Substitution Gilberto Michel Fernandes Bastos
Michel Bastos goes off and on comes Gilberto. It is getting interesting here as Brazil seem to be slightly rattled. Not much, mind you, but slight...
The Dutch have indeed made a very good start to the second half and are putting pressure on Brazil.
GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! The Oranje have scored! Sneijder floats in a cross from the right with his left foot, Julio Cesar goes for the ball with his hands in order to punch it out but he misses it and the ball goes into the net. 1-1 here now!
Goal Wesley Sneijder
There is a controversy here at the moment. Michel Bastos has pulled down Arjen Robben and the Dutch players want the referee to dish out a yellow card. Bastos has already been booked but the referee refuses to show any card. It is still 11 against 11 here.
Snejder tries an audacious attempt from about 25 yards but he cannot pull the trigger properly and the ball goes wide.
However, the corner yields nothing for Brazil.
Luis Fabiano earns a corner for Brazil. Alves lays the ball to Kaka just outside the Dutch penalty area and after nicely controlling the ball Kaka releases Luis Fabiano on the right. But Heitinga makes a very good tackle on him.
Yellow Card Gregory van der Wiel
And we are back for the second half. Brazil lead 1-0 from the first 45 minutes.
WESLEY SNEIJDER!!! He takes a freekick from around 35 yards but Julio Cesar catches the ball with ease. Sneijder and Julio Cesar both play for Italian and European champions Inter, if you may remember.
It's half time between the Netherlands and Brazil and it is 1-0 to the South Americans. Join us again for the second half.
MAICON!!!! De Jong tries to find Arjen Robben but the former Real Madrid winger cannot do anything. Brazil launch a quick counter-attack and the ball is spread wide to the right from where an onrushing Maicon hits the side net. Sensational play from Brazil!
Kaka does brilliantly outside the Dutch penalty area as he refuses to go to ground under challenges and spreads the ball wide left to Michel Bastos. The left-back whips in a cross across the face of goal but there is no one in a blue shirt to turn it in.
Five minutes of action remain in the first half. So far Brazil have been the better side and are deservedly ahead. The Netherlands seem to lack imagination upfront and with Robben shut out, indeed they are without any 'outlet of expression'.
Brazil coach Dunga appears to be very, very frustrated. Maicon and Kuyt go for a challenge and Dunga is not happy with something there.
Yellow Card Michel Fernandes Bastos
Robben is now on the left side and from there he tries to release Kuyt, but the Liverpool midfielder's attempted cross is turned out for a corner, which turns out to be unyielding for the Dutch.
KAKA!!!!!!! Robinho squeezes past three markers on the left, passes the ball to Luis Fabiano who then flicks to Kaka on the edge of the Dutch penalty area and the Real Madrid star takes a curling attempt on goal that the Dutch goalkeeper palms out. Brilliant football from the Brazilians there!
Good move from the Dutch there! Wesley Sneijder finds Van Persie on the right near the Brazil byline and the Arsenal striker pulls it back towards Robben, who then tries to cut inside from just outside the Brazil area, but he is crowded out by three defenders and his shot is easily blocked. But it was a good move from the Oranje.
Daniel Alves takes the freekick from the right but Luis Fabiano's header goes over the Dutch crossbar.
Great challenge there by Nigel De Jong. Maicon breaks free on the right and cuts the ball inside towards Kaka, but before the Real Madrid midfielder can reach to the ball, De Jong makes the intervention. Brilliant play there from the Dutch midfielder.
JUAN! Daniel Alves, who is playing as a midfielder today, whips in a quick cross from the right and it finds centre-back Juan just a few yards from the Dutch goal. However, Juan's shot sails over the crossbar.
Let me quickly tell you some of the breaking international news stories from the past hour or so. The England FA have confirmed that Fabio Capello will stay on as the Three Lions coach and Laurent Blanc has been appointed as the new France coach.
Arjen Robben is not seeing much of the ball and the Dutch are failing in attack. In fact, they have yet to properly test Brazil goalkeeper Julio Cesar. The Oranje are getting some freekicks but they have yet to get a clear-cut chance.
Robin Van Persie takes a freekick for the Dutch now from outside the Brazil penalty box but it sails way over the crossbar. Still 1-0 to Brazil.
Dirk Kuyt skipped past his marker on the left and floated in a cross into the Brazil penalty area but Mark Van Bommel cannot get to it at the right time.
Daniel Alves takes a freekick from distance but it is off the mark. The Brazilians seem to be asking questions of the Dutch defence at the moment.
Yellow Card John Heitinga
Netherlands go on the attack rightaway in an effort to equalise but Dirk Kuyt can only hist the side net from the left.
It was a sensational but simple move from Brazil. Felipe Melo found Robinho from the centre-midfield and the former Real Madrid got in between the centre-backs and scored with ease. The Dutch defence was woefully found out in this move.
GOAL! GOAL! GOAL! Robinho scores!!!!!! Brazil take the lead and it is 1-0 to the Samba Stars!
Robinho has the ball inside the Dutch net!!! GOAL! No, it has been flagged offside! Brazil really looked great on that move.
Arjen Robben receives the ball on the right flank, cuts inside and tries to release a teammate at the near post. But the Bayern Munich winger is unable to place the ball properly.
It's been a hearty start here to the Netherlands-Brazil match as both sides have shown some attacking intent. Kaka has got a couple of decent touches on the ball and the Dutch look happy coming out of the blocks early.
The Netherlands spring the first attack of the afternoon as Dirk Kuyt floats in a ball from the left in search of Robin Van Persie but there is no problem for the Brazil defence to smother this 'threat'.
And so we start the match...
The good new for the Dutch is that Arjen Robben starts and he is said to be fit enough for the entire 90 minutes.
Here is the Brazil lineup: (4-2-3-1): Julio Cesar, Maicon, Lucio, Juan, Bastos; Gilberto Silva, Felipe Melo; Alves, Kaka, Robinho; Luis Fabiano Felipe Melo made a late recovery and starts the match.
Here is the Netherlands lineup: (4-2-3-1): Stekelenburg, Van der Wiel, Heitinga, Ooijer, Van Bronckhorst; Van Bommel, De Jong; Robben, Sneijder, Kuyt; Van Persie. Mathijsen was initially in the starting lineup but he had some problem with his right leg and was replaced by Ooijer in the very last minute.
