A little fortunate this goal! Scholes is the creator finding Valencia inside the box, he tries a low shot which takes a wicked deflection off Baines to beat Howard and fly into the back of the net.

Fellaini scores for Everton!...but it's disallowed for offside! A real let off for United with the Belgian finishing superbly past Van der Sar but it is not going to count!

Chance for Owen after he pounces on a loose ball in the box. He beats Howard to the ball , but is forced wide and tries to pull the ball back but blasts it wastefully over the bar.

A cross from Yakubu forces Vidic to hack clear in front of his own goal. The ball comes back, however when Heitinga beats Giggs before trying a curler which Van der Sar claims gratefully.

Good play by Distin who gets forward and picks out Saha. The striker takes a touch before unleashing a shot which flies wide of the target.

The home side begin the second half where they left on...namely on the attack. Evra again causes havoc down the left, finds Giggs who plays in Owen but he's just offside and Howard made the save in any case.

Everton are temporarily down to 10 after Heitinga sustains a cut and has to head off for some treatment. In his absence Fletcher tries another shot but it's blocked and the visitors escape.

Well this goal had been coming for a while and it was worth waiting for! Evra was the instigator crossing from the left, the ball was headed back to Fletcher by Valencia who calmly thumped it into the top corner! Super strike by the Scot!

United pepper the Everton box with crosses but to no avail. The home side are well and truly on top but struggling to carve out any clear cut chances.

United give the ball away and Everton pump it up to Saha who flicks it on but there are no blue shirts in sight!

Rafael is the first man in the book after hauling down Saha after the striker looked to break from a United corner. Easy decision for the ref.

A better spell for Everton who enjoy a rare spell of possession but all they can manage is a weak shot wide by Jack Rodwell. The visitors are distinctly lacking in adventure so far this evening...

Chance for Everton! Baines fires in a cross from the left and Saha turns and hits a low shot which a diving Van der Sar claims comfortably. Decent effort by the Frenchman.

Still the home side press... Rooney and Carrick tee up Valencia but he balloons his shot over the bar!

It's been all United so far but suddenly Everton break and Saha has only Brown for company but the defender does well and puts in a fine tackle to nick the ball away . Seconds later, Valencia and Rafael combine down the right and the full back's cross is inches away from being converted by Rooney.

Valencia gets into the box down the right but Leighton Baines does really well to dispossess the United winger and scrape the ball clear. It's just a temporary reprieve, however, as moments later Evra scampers down the left and crosses for Rooney inside the D but his shot flies just wide.

A quick break from United sees Owen, Valencia, Rooney and Giggs sweeping the champions goalward but Distin does well to nick the ball away at the vital moment.

United on top in these early stages, Rooney almost finds Owen just inside the box but he's just put too much on the pass allowing the Toffees to clear.

United enjoy some pressure in and around the Everton area. Fletcher picks up a loose ball and tees up Valencia who crosses to the Scot who has continued his run but he can't quite get on the end of it. Rooney then picks up possession and tries to find Owen but Howard.

Rafael pings a long ball up to Rooney, the ball comes to Michael Owen who runs forwards and tries to slide in Valencia in the box. However, the ball goes for a corner which Giggs swings in but it's cleared at the near post.

Here we go! Everton, all in blue, get this first half underway. The visitors send the ball all the way back to former Red Devil Tim Howard who hoofs it forward and straight to his opposite number.

The champions are hoping to bounce back from defeat to Chelsea last time out and line up with Michael Owen partnering Wayne Rooney up front.
