Live Commentary

  • Chelsea will have plenty of work to keep their hopes of advancing alive next week at Stamford Bridge. It will be a real test for Mourinho's men, and they will surely need to improve upon tonight's display. That is all from me, Tom Webber, for this evening. Have a great night.
  • FULL TIME - PSG 3-1 Chelsea: A late goal from Pastore secures an impressive win for les Parisiens, who will be confident of progressing to the semi-finals despite conceding an away goal through Hazard's penalty. The home crowd are absolutely delighted. Will all their financial outlay finally pay dividends?
  • 90' + 4'
There is the final whistle! PSG take a rather commanding first-leg lead!
  • 90' + 3'
    Goal Javier Pastore
GOOOOOOOOOAL!! WHAT A STRIKE! Pastore scores a sublime individual goal, dribbling away from three white shirts and in from the right flank before hammering a low shot past Cech at his near post.
  • 90' + 1'
Lucas flights in a great corner but Motta can't connect with it well enough to steer his header on target. The fourth official has signalled there will be four minutes of added time.
  • 90'
Lucas fires a low cross into the box from the right and Ivanovic slides in to divert it out for a corner. The Serbian lets out a big sigh after doing so, but he needs to get up and prepare to defend from this set piece.
  • 89'
Maxwell and Pastore combine down the left but the latter's pass towards the byeline is too heavy for the Brazilian to get on the end of and Cahill shepherds it out of play.
  • 88'
We just have a couple of minutes remaining in Paris, and you cannot see Chelsea rushing to score a goal in the closing stages. A 1-0 win at Stamford Bridge would still be enough for them to progress, but PSG look set to make it 10 consecutive victories in all competitions.
  • 86'
    Yellow Card Edinson Cavani
  • 86'
    Yellow Card David Luiz
  • 86'
There is a coming together between Cavani and David Luiz on the near side, right in front of the dugouts. The Brazilian stands over his opponent and just as things look like getting fiery, Laurent Blanc steps in and guides the Chelsea man back over to his coach. The referee still decides to book both players.
  • 85'
Lavezzi makes way for Pastore, despite arguably being the best player on the pitch tonight. He was been determined to guide his side victory, and he has played a pivotal role in doing so.
  • 84'
    SubstitutionEzequiel Lavezzi Javier Pastore
  • 84'
CAVANI! So close! He uses an overlapping run to cut inside onto his right foot and instantly shapes to shoot. He curls a lovely effort towards the far corner but he is unable to bend it inside Cech's post and it goes out of play.
  • 83'
The Blues have a decent spell of pressure up in the PSG half but as the ball is lofted back into the box after Sirigu punched a corner out, Ivanovic commits a foul which sees the referee award the hosts a free kick.
  • 82'
    Yellow Card Thiago Motta
  • 81'
Cabaye! Well over! The former Newcastle man receives the ball in space 25 yards from goal and sets himself for a shot with his first touch. His effort is always rising and fails to worry Cech in the Chelsea goal.
  • 80'
Torres looks like he's running in quicksand as he approaches the PSG defence on the break. He has support to his left but runs out towards the right before being caught, and dispossessed, by Matuidi. A waste of an opportunity there.
  • 78'
Cavani finally manages to get a shot away, albeit from distance, but his strike is blocked on the edge of the box by a white shirt. It has not been the Uruguayan's night so far.
  • 76'
    SubstitutionMarco Verratti Yohan Cabaye
  • 76'
Chelsea are stil looking to find a second away goal tonight, but they need to be careful not to overcommit. The pace of Lavezzi and Lucas could be deadly on the break, with the Brazilian surely keen to impress the onlooking Scolari ahead of the World Cup.
  • 74'
Mesmerising from Lucas! The Brazilian goes on a fantastic run from inside his own half, holding off two Chelsea players before daring away from them and running past another two. He then lays it off to Cavani but the Uruguayan's control is awful and he fails to get a shot away.
  • 72'
    SubstitutionOscar Frank Lampard
  • 72'
Jallet races up from the back, getting to the byeline before cutting the ball back onto the penalty spot. Again, though, it is behind Cavani and Chelsea come away with the ball.
  • 70'
Lucas uses his pace to drive at the Chelsea defence before laying a pass of to Cavani. The former Napoli man instantly flicks it back to Matuidi with his heel, however the midfielder overruns and is unable to bring it under his control.
  • 68'
    SubstitutionZlatan Ibrahimovic Lucas
  • 68'
There is a grimace on the face of Ibrahimovic as he heads off down the tunnel, with Lucas Moura coming on in his stead. That will please the watching Luiz Felipe Scolari, whilst also allowing Cavani to move into a central position.
  • 66'
Ibrahimovic had a shot blocked by Terry moments ago, and now he's down on the deck holding his leg. It seemed an innocuous one, but he's shuffling off the pitch now.
  • 64'
David Luiz looks to immediately atone for his error by stepping further up the pitch and initiating a give-and-go with Oscar at the top of the box. After receiving the return pass he tries to immediately lay it off but it proves to be too much and possession is lost.
  • 61'
    Own Goal David Luiz
GOOOOOOOOAL! NIGHTMARE FOR DAVID LUIZ! The Brazilian gave away a cheap free kick on the near side and following Lavezzi's brilliant delivery, he then turned into his own net. An awful couple of minutes for him. PSG regain the lead!
  • 61'
STAT: PSG's Alex made 135 appearances for Chelsea between 2007 and 2012 and earned a Champions League runners-up medal in 2008.
  • 59'
    SubstitutionAndre Schürrle Fernando Torres
  • 59'
Well, Mourinho's decision to play Schurrle as a striker has not paid off and so he has been replaced by Torres for the final 30 minutes. Can the Spaniard provide something different up top? He does love a European night.
  • 57'
Verratti fares better with a pass from deep now, though, but Ibrahimovic is unable to control it on his chest as the ball drops just a little too far behind him.
  • 56'
Thiago Silva has tried to change the approach of his team a couple of times this half with driven, diagonal balls from the half-way line. As of yet he has been unable to pick out a team-mate, though.
  • 54'
STAT: PSG are currently in a rich vein of form having won nine straight games in all competitions - a new club record - and have conceded just twice during that run. Are Chelsea going to end that streak tonight?
  • 52'
LAVEZZI! SO CLOSE! It is Matuidi again with the cross from the left, and he picks out Lavezzi in the box. The Argentine had found a space between Cahill and Terry from which to power a header at goal, however he can't keep it down and it drops on the roof of the net.
  • 50'
That is risky from Cahill as he stoops low to get his head on Jallet's cross. Just as Terry's did ahead of the opening goal it lacks pace, but fortunately the Chelsea captain is on hand to clear this one away before any PSG player can pounce.
  • 49'
Ibrahimovic dinks a lovely, if but a tad ambitious, pass over the top of the defence for Lavezzi to run onto. However, the former Napoli man is beaten to the ball by the onrushing Cech, who comes off his line to collect it.
  • 47'
RAMIRES IS A LUCKY BOY! The Brazilian is beaten by Verratti and he tugs the Italian back as he passes him. The referee blows for a free kick but decides against issuing another card. He really needs to be careful.
  • 46'
    We are back underway!
  • Welcome back! The two sides have re-emerged from the tunnel so the second half will begin imminently.
  • Hazard could have had a second but his brilliant volley struck the post of Sirigu's goal. Still, Mourinho may not be entirely happy with that performance as his side have struggled for cohesion in attack. For the hosts, Ibrahimovic has been rather quiet and they will expect more for him in the second half. Stay tuned for it!
  • HALF TIME - PSG 1-1 Chelsea: Blanc's men got off to the perfect start as Lavezzi fired an emphatic shot past Cech with just four minutes played. However, the hosts stepped off the gas, inviting pressure from the Blues who subsequently won a penalty. Hazard dispatched it in the 27th minute to ensure the sides went into the interval level.
  • 45'
There is no added time at the end of the first half as the half-time whistle goes.
  • 44'
Verratti again holds onto the ball for too long and Ramires closes him down quickly, however, the Brazilian committs a foul in trying to win back possession. He needs to be careful having already been shown a yellow card.
  • 43'
Penalty claim for PSG! Verratti's long ball picks out Ibrahimovic in the area and he nods it across to Cavani in the centre. It is sent behind the Uruguayan and he slips as he turns alongside Cahill, who also goes to ground. The crowd are in uproar, but there didn't seem to be a lot in it.
  • 42'
Cavani makes a bright run to get in behind the defence but the ball over the top to him is intercepted by Cahill. That was the first time we've seen the Uruguayan trying his luck in a central position, though he was only able to as Ibrahimovic had dropped deep to try and get involved.
  • 40'
OFF THE POST! Truly brilliant from Hazard! The Belgian fires a first-time volley across goal from an acute angle which beats Sirigu, however it bounces back off the post and is dealt with by Thiago Silva. Willian's cross to set it up deserves recognition too.
  • 38'
Hazard is fed by David Luiz in the centre of the PSG half and he carries it out to the left. He shows too much of the ball to Jallet, though, and the right-back puts in a strong challenge. The loose ball falls to Azpilicueta but he is unable to provide anything more.
  • 36'
Having pulled themselves level Chelsea have eased off on Laurent Blanc's men and are now coming under pressure themselves. Roles seem to have reversed, with the Premier League outfit now looking to attack on the break.
  • 34'
Cech comes off his line to punch a corner away but a flick from the head of Azpilicueta means he completely misses it. Fortunately Ivanovic is on hand to mop up behind him, clearing the danger with a powerful header.
  • 33'
Good play from the hosts as Maxwell is released towards the byeline and he cuts a pass back towards Matuidi. Ivanovic shows good anticipation to read the delivery and hook it out of play before the France international can connect.
  • 32'
    Yellow Card Willian
  • 31'
LAVEZZI! He's been an real predator in the box tonight, and this time he controls Jallet's cross on his chest confidently. His touch turns him away from goal, but he lashes a first-time effort on the spin which is held by Cech as he dives down to his left.
  • 29'
Mourinho will be delighted that his team have secured an away goal after going behind. PSG were inviting the pressure from Chelsea but they were too sloppy when they did get the ball themselves, and now they have been punished.
  • 27'
    Penalty Goal Eden Hazard
GOOOOOOOAL!! HAZARD EQUALISES! The Belgian steps up with complete confidence, rolling a cool penalty into the bottom corner with Sirigu diving the wrong way.
  • 26'
PENALTY TO CHELSEA! Oscar prods the ball away from Thiago Silva in the area and is brought to ground by his international team-mate. The referee points to the spot!
  • 25'
SIDE NETTING! PSG get a chance to break and they do it through Lavezzi on the left. Ivanovic is out of position so the Argentine makes his way into the area before slamming his shot into the side of Cech's goal.
  • 24'
Chelsea's front four are interchanging their positions, but it is causing them to play in a rather narrow way. The only width is being offered by the full-backs, and they are reluctant to push forward due to the pace of Lavezzi - especially Ivanovic.
  • 22'
Ramires tries to dribble through the heart of the opposition but the ball gets away from him and Cavani lumps it straight down the other end of the pitch. Mourinho's men attempt to come straight back at the hosts but a long ball is misread and runs out of play for a goal kick.
  • 21'
Les Parisiens are starting to sit back and let Chelsea control the ball in their half now. The movement in attack just isn't there for the visitors and with Cavani and Lavezzi tracking back they cannot seem to find any space to penetrate the hosts' defence.
  • 20'
    Yellow Card Alex
  • 19'
Brilliant from Luiz as he spins away from Verratti elegantly before dribbling towards goal. The PSG players keep backing off of him so he decides to have a go at testing Sirigu. He strikes the ball with his left foot, though, and it is not powerful enough to worry the keeper, instead rolling comfortably into his hands.
  • 17'
STAT: Ibrahimovic has scored 41 goals in his last 36 appearances for club and country. So far, though, we have seen relatively little of the imposing Swede.
  • 15'
David Luiz steps up from his deep-lying position, injecting some pace as he looks for a give-and-go with Oscar. Matuidi reads it well, though, and gets his foot to the return pass to break apart the play.
  • 14'
Chelsea yet to really click in this game. Things have seemed a bit disjointed for them when they move into the final third with PSG's defence holding strong. Schurrle is moving about an awful lot and a focal point to the attack is absent.
  • 12'
    Yellow Card Ramires
  • 12'
Ramires is beaten by the pace of Lavezzi as the Argentine looks to initiate a counterattack and he brings him to ground with a clumsy challenge. The referee shows him a yellow card and that will rule him out of the second leg.
  • 11'
Cavani is working extremely hard to get back and help protect Jallet against Hazard in these early exchanges. The Uruguayan has made some decent challenges on the Chelsea man already.
  • 10'
Chelsea win possession inside the PSG half and Schurrle carries the ball to the byeline on the far side. He puts a cutback into the area but none of his team-mates are in position to add a finish so Jallet removes the threat. Seconds later Matuidi is caught on the ball and it falls to Oscar, but his shot from distance is blocked.
  • 9'
Willian arrows a pass into Schurrle at the top of the box, but the German's first touch is not good enough to see him move immediately past Jallet. The right-back sticks out a foot to dispossess him before clearing away the danger.
  • 8'
Hazard clips a lovely pass with the outside of his boot over the top of Jallet for Azpilicueta to run onto. The Spaniard almost gets in, but the masked Thiago Silva comes across and clears it out of play for a throw in. Good covering from the captain.
  • 6'
Verratti is showing great confidence on the ball in these early stages, but he almost holds onto it for too long inside his own area with Oscar chasing. The Brazilian makes a challenge and comes away with possession, however the referee adjudges him to have committed a foul in doing so and awards PSG a free kick.
  • 4'
    Goal Ezequiel Lavezzi
GOOOOOOOOAL!! PSG OPEN THE SCORING! Well that did not take long at all, and the crowd are jubilant! Matuidi's cross is not cleared adequately by Terry, whose header falls straight to Lavezzi. The Argentine controls it with his chest before lashing the ball into the roof of the net! What a start for the hosts!
  • 2'
PSG are pressing Chelsea high up the pitch and already the visitors have sent a couple of errant long passes up field after trying to hold onto the ball at the back.
  • 1'
    We are underway in Paris!
  • The famous Champions League anthem rings around the stadium. What a sensation that always gives.
  • We are around five minutes from kick off, and what a game we have on our hands. The teams are about to make their way out onto the pitch and there will surely be a raucous atmosphere inside the Parc des Princes!
  • Les Parisiens are unbeaten in 28 European home games. The last team to overcome them at Parc des Princes in a European competition was Hapoel Tel-Aviv with a 4-2 win the 2006-07 Uefa Cup group stage. However, PSG have only managed one win in seven games against English opposition, losing three.
  • There are a few players who could miss the second leg should they pick up a booking this evening. For PSG, Blaise Matuidi and Adrien Rabiot a will face a suspension should they be shown a yellow card, while Chelsea have Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and John Obi Mikel walking the same tightrope.
  • In stark contrast Chelsea's three main strikers - Samuel Eto’o, Fernando Torres, and Demba Ba - have scored just eight Champions League goals between them so far this season. With the first-choice Cameroonian out due to injury Mourinho has selected Schurrle in attack, though you can expect plenty of rotation from the Blues' forward quartet. There is no place for Frank Lampard as David Luiz starts in midfield.
  • PSG have just long-term absentee Gregory van der Wiel missing in terms of their first-choice line-up, so Christophe Jallet continues at right-back. Former Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye starts on the bench with Marco Verratti preferred. In attack, Zlatan Ibrahimovic - who has already scored 10 goals in this competition - leads the line.
  • Chelsea substitutes: Schwarzer, Ake, Kalas, Lampard, Mikel, Torres, Ba.
  • Chelsea (4-2-3-1): Cech; Ivanovic, Cahill, Terry, Azpilicueta; Ramires, David Luiz; Willian, Oscar, Hazard; Schurrle.
  • PSG substitutes: Douchez, Marquinhos, Digne, Cabaye, Rabiot, Pastore, Lucas.
  • PSG (4-3-3): Sirigu; Jallet, Alex, Thiago Silva, Maxwell; Verratti, Thiago Motta, Matuidi; Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Lavezzi.
  • The line-ups are in, so lets take a look at how the two sides will shape up.
  • It could be considered a risky strategy from the Portuguese coach as PSG look to progress to the semi-finals of Europe's premier club competition for just the second time. Les Parisien's reached this stage last campaign but were eliminated by Barcelona on the away goals rule after a 3-3 aggregate score.
  • Jose Mourinho's first European game as Chelsea coach was at the Parc des Princes in September 2004. The Blues ran out 3-0 winners after Didier Drogba added a double to John Terry's opener. How the fans may wish they had a striker similar to the Ivorian at the club at the moment, as tonight Mourinho has opted to start without a recognised striker.
  • Hello and welcome to tonight's LIVE play-by-play analysis on the first leg of the Champions League quarter-final between Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea. The Parc des Princes is our destination this evening, and I, Tom Webber, will be guiding you through all the action.
