A curling effort from Oscar and a penalty from Eden Hazard proved enough to give Jose Mourinho's side a win against the Nerazzurri in their 2013 Guinness International Cup opener

    Petr Cech

The Chelsea goalkeeper had to contend with a couple of long range shots from Palacio and Alvarez in the first half. Apart from the it was a fairly comfortable game for the Czech international.

    Branislav Ivanovic

Reverted to right-back under Jose Mourinho after spending most of last season at centre-back. Looked a bit rusty in his attacking play but proved near-impossible to pass going the other way.

  • Gary Cahill

    Gary Cahill

Made a couple of crucial interventions to cut out balls intending for Inter striker Icardi. Some of his passing out of the back was perhaps a little rushed.

  • John Terry

    John Terry

Began the game with two eye-catching passes raked across the Lucas Oil Stadium. Thereafter, he have a couple of nervous touches. Campagnaro's horror tackle on him ended his game, but the injury does not look serious.

  • Ashley Cole

    Ashley Cole

An understated performance from the left-back. He ventured forward on a few occasions but let Hazard to the attacking on the main part. Perhaps an instruction from Mourinho.

  • Ramires

    Ramires

Typically plucky in central midfield the Brazilian probably covered more ground than anyone on the field today. His first touch did let him down in the final third though, as he could have grabbed himself a goal.

  • Marco van Ginkel

    3.50

    Marco van Ginkel

A fine addition to the Chelsea squad. His worth to the team looks clear as he swept up Inter attacks when they crossed the halfway line and displayed great athleticism to carry the ball into attack.

  • Eden Hazard
    74
    40
    4.00

    Eden Hazard

The best player on the pitch, he was full of turns, tricks and idea. Generally causing havoc in the Inter defence. His penality was dispatched with a touch of swagger to boot.

  • Oscar
    58
    30
    3.50

    Oscar

Not far behind Hazard, is Oscar, the other goalscorer. His first touch to check back on to his right foot, and his second to curl it into the top corner, where as delightful as each other. The Brazilian just oozed class while he was on the pitch.

  • Victor Moses

    Victor Moses

The Nigeria international's part in the first goal was frightening. He monstered through a number of challenges before slipping a simple ball out to Oscar. He showed similar endeavour throughout with the successful end product, though.

  • Romelu Lukaku

    34

    Romelu Lukaku

Almost broke the post into two when he lashed a shot against it in the the second half. He really wanted a goal but apart from the one mentioned, he never found himself the opportunity.

    Mark Schwarzer

Came on for Cech at half-time but never actually made anything that resembled a save. A simple catch from a floating cross is as testing as it got for the Australian.

    David Luiz

Slotted into central defence in the second half and played with calmness and confidence. Took off where Terry left off in terms of long-range passing from defence.

  • César Azpilicueta

    César Azpilicueta

The Spain international also came on for a short cameo but never really got going in terms of making an impact in the game.

  • Michael Essien

    Michael Essien

Came on at half-time and set in front of the back four, screening it from danger. He made some great tackles but continually gave the ball away after winning it.

  • John Obi Mikel

    15
    2.50

    John Obi Mikel

Came on late on and sat alongside Essien in front of the defence. The Blues were inpenetrable with the duo in deep lying positions.

  • Fernando Torres

    Fernando Torres

Showed plenty of pace and enthusiasm as a late substitute. Burst onto a run from the halfway line and weaved his way through Inter defenders before having an early shot parried away shortly after coming on. Lively cameo from the Spaniard.

  • Juan Mata
    49
    35
    3.50

    Juan Mata

Came on has a half-time substitute and took to the game like a duck to water. Instrumental since the moment of his introduction, he would have wanted to be involved in a goal.

  • Demba Ba

    Demba Ba

Solid if unspectacular from the Senegalese forward. Stung Handanovic's hands with a punt from range and nearly beat the Inter keeper with a clever flicked header. When he doesn't score, he doesn't offer a great deal else.

  • Samir Handanoviç

    Samir Handanoviç

Made a number of impressive saves throughout the match as Chelsea piled on pressure. Can't really be faulted for either of the Blues' goals.

  • Hugo Campagnaro

    Hugo Campagnaro

Wasn't having the best of games before an unexplicable tackle on John Terry which he was correctly sent off for. A moment of madness from the veteran Argentine.

  • Andrea Ranocchia

    3.00

    Andrea Ranocchia

Probably Inter's better defender on the night, he made a number of good blocks and last-ditch challenges to stop Chelsea from taking a bigger lead.

  • Juan Jesus

    2.00

    Juan Jesus

An understated game from the Brazilian defender. Had trouble as Moses and Lukaku took turns to run at him in the first half. Fared better while he was on the pitch after the break.

  • Yuto Nagatomo

    2
    2.50

    Yuto Nagatomo

The Japan international did get Inter going forward a few times with his burst of pace, in fact their best chance began through him. But he was guilty of giving away possession cheaply on one too many occasions.

  • Fredy Guarín

    3
    3.00

    Fredy Guarín

Came as close as any Inter player to scoring with a audacious first-half volley. He met a swinging cross with a venomous strike which only just flew past the post. One of the few Inter players who showed creativity in the final third.

  • Esteban Cambiasso

    2.00

    Esteban Cambiasso

The experienced head among the Inter midfield, the Argentine sometimes tried to force the play in the final third with direct passes into Icardi. Defensively, he was overrun by Oscar, Hazard and Moses.

  • Ricardo Álvarez

    2
    2.50

    Ricardo Álvarez

One of Inter's better attacking threats during the game. He came as close with a deflected shot wide. To his credit he was one of few of continued to try and work the ball forward even when a man down.

  • Á. Pereira

    2.00

    Á. Pereira

Didn't fare too well in the midfield battle against his Chelsea counterparts. Didn't quite anticipate the Blues passing in midfield and was often bypassed after lunging into tackles.

  • Rodrigo Palacio
    1
    2
    2.50

    Rodrigo Palacio

Had an impressive first half where most of the Italian side's good work involved him. But after the break he faded badly and never really got himself in the game.

  • Mauro Icardi
    1
    3
    2.00

    Mauro Icardi

Not an easy night for the new striker, his most significant contribution came in the form of three successive blocks at the edge of the area. Played most of the night with his back to goal, not where his best work comes from.

Substitutions

The Romanian defender came on after Campagnaro had got himself sent off and did well to help organise the defence and keep Chelsea from inflicting any further damage.
