The Terriers goalkeeper had to be alert at all times as Wigan threatened throughout the game but there was little he could do with both goals. He made a good save from Gomez in the lead up to the first goal but the parried shot dropped straight to Kone who tapped in.

    Anthony Gerrard

Worked well alongside Clarke at the back for the home side but dealing with Kone was a real challenge for him. He carried the ball out of defence well at times but his passing could have been more accurate.

    Calum Woods

He handled Gomez well and limited what the Spaniard was able to create for the visitors but the added pressure of Stam meant he had a tough afternoon.

Jack Hunt Flop of the Match

Really struggled with the pace and skill of McManaman and was chasing the winger’s heels on more than one occasion. Both first-half goals came down his wing; he was caught out on both occasions and his mistakes were punished by the visitors.

  • Peter Clarke

    Peter Clarke

The Huddersfield captain stuck very close to Kone throughout but was given a tough time by the lively forward. He was strong in the air and won most battles with Kone on what was a busy afternoon.

  • Adam Clayton

    Adam Clayton

Didn’t get the chance to be creative in the midfield because he had to spend most of his game going towards his own goal. He picked up in the second half and was more involved in the game but it was a long afternoon for him.

  • Chris Atkinson

    Chris Atkinson

Battled hard but was overpowered by the impressive McArthur and Fyvie partnership for Wigan. He worked hard to find space and get his side on the ball but was unable to do so, and he was replaced by Novak at half time.

  • Neil Danns

    Neil Danns

Showed some moments of skill that created the few good openings that Huddersfield had but he never really had the ball in the attacking third to really test the Wigan backline.

  • Scott Arfield

    Scott Arfield

Worked hard in midfield but found himself having to chase the ball a lot as the visitors dominated possession. He was strong in the tackle when required and looked to retain possession when he could but those chances were few and far between.

  • Alan Lee

    Alan Lee

Was isolated in the first half as his side were restricted to long balls that the Wigan defence were able to deal with easily. He was replaced by Vaughan at half-time.

    Sean Scannell

Like Danns, he was lively when he received the ball in the final third of the pitch but that didn’t happen enough and he found himself having to track the runs of Stam instead.

The youngster replaced Scannell in the 65th minute but had little impact.

    James Vaughan

Replaced Lee at half-time and was immediately more of a danger than the big striker. His movement caused Scharner and Golobart some concern and he was unlucky not to score soon after coming on as Robles saved a good chance.

  • Lee Novak

    Lee Novak

Replaced Atkinson at half-time and gave the hosts a new dimension. He posed more of a threat and got his name on the scoresheet with a close range header from a Woods cross just after the hour.

  • Joel

    Joel

A fairly easy game for the Spaniard as the hosts rarely tested him; in fact, he spent most of the game barking out orders to his defenders to keep them alert. When he was called upon he made a good save from Vaughan but he could not keep Novak’s strike out.

  • Maynor Figueroa

    Maynor Figueroa

Playing in his more natural left-back position he did well and was never really tested by Danns, his close marking and well-timed challenges keeping the winger at bay.

  • Ronnie Stam

    Ronnie Stam

Had a good afternoon marauding down the right-hand side in support of Gomez, and he had a fair bit of success when delivering some dangerous crosses into the penalty area. Defensively he was able to deal with Scannell easily and kept the winger very quiet.

  • Román Golobart

    Román Golobart

A solid display from the Spaniard, who grew in confidence as the game went on. He worked well with Scharner and kept Lee very quiet in the first half. His quality on the ball was evident as he regularly brought the ball out of defence and set Wigan on their way.

  • Fraser Fyvie

    Fraser Fyvie

He is a little ball of energy in midfield and linked up very well with McArthur as Wigan dominated the game. His passing was very neat and tidy, he was positive with every opportunity he was given and gave the Huddersfield midfield no time to settle on the ball.

  • James McArthur

James McArthur Top of the Match

Very good in the middle of the pitch, the Scot ran the game for the visitors and was instrumental in all three goals. The first two came following neat passes from him inside Hunt, and he capped a fine display with a thunderous strike into the top corner to make it 3-0.

  • Jordi Gómez

    Jordi Gómez

He was not heavily involved in the game but when he was needed his input was good. Kept the ball moving well and found some neat openings to put Kone in. He was replaced by Beasuejour in the 74th minute as Wigan looked to consolidate their lead.

  • Paul Scharner

    Paul Scharner

Showed his experience when dealing with the presence of Lee and battled well with the striker, rarely letting him have a free header. He talked Golobart through the game, giving the Spaniard plenty of guidance to handle the attacks of Huddersfield.

  • R. Espinoza

    R. Espinoza

He glided through the game with some silky touches and clinical passes and provided the spark that Wigan needed to create plenty of opportunities. A constant thorn in the side of the Huddersfield defence. He was replaced by Maloney in the 58th minute.

  • Arouna Kone

    Arouna Kone

Full of running throughout the game and he never gave the Huddersfield a moment’s peace as he constantly closed them down. He never really had a sight of goal in the game though and his best chance was well saved by Smithies.

  • Callum McManaman

    Callum McManaman

A display of real promise from the young winger as he tore past Hunt regularly and had his delivery been better Wigan could have been further ahead. He set up both first half goals with low crosses, and continued to run Hunt ragged in the second half.
