Live Commentary

  • Credit to the League One side, whose dream cup run continues yet further. The way things are going, you wouldn't rule out their chances of beating Everton at Goodison Park. This is the FA Cup at it's very best and with that, I've been Tim Poole and you've been a fantastic audience. Until next time!
  • Oldham just kept on fighting, pushing for an equaliser with relentless energy. And in the end, there was nothing the Premier League side could do to prevent the Latics from forcing a replay.
  • Jordan Obita put Oldham ahead in the first half, before Victor Anichebe equalised for the visitors. Phil Jagielka then headed superbly under pressure from a Kevin Mirallas corner early in the second half to put Everton ahead, but the League One minnows came storming back once again.
  • Well... Excuse me while I grab a moment to breathe after that sensational FA Cup tie! 2-2; absolutely unbelievable.
  • 90' + 5'
    Goal Matt Smith
Unbelievable scenes here as 22 men fight for the ball inside the penalty area and Smith - who scored twice in the last round against Liverpool - outleaps everyone to head the ball in!
  • 90' + 5'
IT'S ALL OVER! Famous scenes at Boundary Park as Oldham force a replay with the last action of the game.
  • 90' + 4'
    GOALLLLLLLLLL!!! It's Matt Smith again!!!!
  • 90' + 3'
And now another corner! Howard beats Bouzanis to the ball in the battle of the keepers and punches clear.
  • 90' + 3'
Corner for the hosts now! And even Bouzanis is forward!
  • 90' + 2'
    SubstitutionNikica Jelavic Shane Duffy
  • 90' + 2'
Everyone is in the Everton half and so is the ball. Distin clears a long ball and the ball goes out for a throw-in, prompting another wild pass to be sent straight back into the penalty area.
  • 90' + 1'
Four minutes of injury time have been given and they will be four minutes too long for Moyes and his players. Pure tension at Boundary Park at the minute.
  • 90'
The ball keeps getting launched in and out of the Everton penalty area. It has been complete dominance from the hosts during these last 10 minutes but the visitors STILL have the lead.
  • 90'
Injury time is fast approaching but the visitors are weathering the storm. Credit to the Toffees, who are doing what their cross-city rivals failed to do in containing the energetic Latics.
  • 89'
Dangerous times for Moyes' men, here.
  • 88'
DOUBLE CHANCE! Simpson is denied twice!! Oldham are doing everything they can.. A fantastic long ball finds the forward, who is first denied by Howard and then by the side-netting.
  • 87'
CHANCE! Barnard's deflected strike floats only a couple of yards wide of the Everton goal. It's not over yet!
  • 86'
The visitors have the ball in the middle of the park again and, despite some strong challenges from the home midfielders, are keeping possession well.
  • 85'
Will there be a late equaliser? Or will the away side put the game beyond all doubt? Anything could happen at this rate.
  • 84'
Controversy here now as an Oldham player falls to the ground but the referee gives a free kick to the visitors, seemingly for a foul!
  • 83'
It's back with the home side now and this game has really perked up in the last few minutes. End to end football between two sides separated by two divisions - brilliant stuff from the hosts to keep up with the Merseysiders.
  • 82'
CHANCE! The visitors almost put the game to bed as Jelavic gets on the end of a Gibson pass, takes a couple of touches and smashes a shot just over the bar.
  • 81'
Fantastic energy from the home side and the ball pings around the Everton half before a misunderstanding sees Croft knock the ball out for a throw-in to the away side.
  • 79'
Another chance for Oldham! Fantastic work from Simpson as he lays the ball back to Smith, who forces a terrific stop from Howard. The hosts are hunting for the equaliser at full force now!
  • 78'
    SubstitutionSteven Pienaar Bryan Oviedo
  • 78'
Chance for Oldham! But Smith can only send his header wide after a slightly overhit cross is launched into the visiting penalty area.
  • 77'
    SubstitutionJordan Obita Robbie Simpson
Before it's taken, however, Obita is indeed forced off and Robbie Simpson - who was instrumental against Liverpool in the last round - is his replacement.
  • 76'
Roars from the home crowd as the Latics storm straight up the other end and win themselves a corner!
  • 75'
Jelavic, meanwhile, has a shot blocked from just outside the penalty area. Both sides are defending well, here, but the hosts may soon be forced to go for it a bit more in these closing stages.
  • 74'
Obita has been forced off with cramp, although the striker is expected to resume upon receiving treatment.
  • 72'
The visiting defenders are snuffing everything out at the minute and their effective clearances almost set up a third goal for their side. Jelavic was released down the left but the Croatian's cross could not find a blue shirt in the Oldham penalty area.
  • 70'
The home side are finally putting something together now, though, and have won themselves a throw-in deep inside the Everton half.
  • 69'
The visitors are currently enjoying a comfortable spell of possession - with the ball mainly spending its time inside the Oldham half.
  • 67'
Distin whips a free kick in from just inside his own half but Fellaini is penalised for a foul upon heading the ball down on the end of it.
  • 66'
    SubstitutionJames Wesolowski Dean Furman
A second change for the home side now as they keep searching for the equaliser.
  • 64'
Oldham man Reece Wabara - out today through injury - has just tweeted that this is the most he has ever seen Lee Croft run. The effort is there, but it's just not happening for the League One side at the minute.
  • 63'
Moyes' half-time team talk has done it's job - the visitors have contained the hosts to great effect since taking the lead. They are now less than half an hour away from the FA Cup quarter-finals.
  • 62'
There's some confusion in the home penalty area! But the ball is cleared before Mirallas can get a shot in.
  • 61'
    SubstitutionChris Iwelumo Matt Smith
Matt Smith, the hero of Oldham's win over Liverpool in the fourth round, has just come on. Can he bag another matchwinning double today?
  • 59'
CHANCE! Another great corner is whipped in for the visitors and Leon Osman almost gets his head to the ball but it just evades the midfielder by a matter of inches.
  • 58'
It isn't stopping the home fans from cheering joyfully though! Great support from the home faithful.
  • 57'
Baxter has the ball in the Everton half but is dispossessed with relative ease. All the home side's efforts so far in this second half have been in vain.
  • 55'
    Yellow Card Phil Neville
  • 55'
How can the home side get back into things? The away side are closing them off on every corner.
  • 53'
Jelavic has been relatively quiet in comparison to his striking counterparts today, although he did get the assist for the first goal so Moyes can't really complain about any of his forwards based on this performance.
  • 52'
Chance for Everton! Good link-up play from Fellaini and Pienaar ends with the South African forcing a diving save from Bouzanis. It's all Everton now.
  • 51'
So Mirallas' first major action was to assist a goal for his side - not a bad contribution from the substitute. Both him and Anichebe have made their mark today.
  • 49'
It's been a composed start to this second half by the visitors and they now look comfortable with the lead. Prospects are looking bleak for the hosts but we know what they can do. Do they have it in them to get back into this game?
  • 48'
    Goal Phil Jagielka
GOAL! He made it look easy - Jagielka heads a Mirallas corner in from the edge of the six-yard box.
  • 47'
Fellaini sends a curling cross into the box but Bouzanis is able to collect with ease.
  • 46'
    SubstitutionVictor Anichebe Kevin Mirallas
Mirallas gets his chance, entering the fray in the only half-time change.
  • 46'
We have resumed! The home side get the second-half going, although the visitors gain possession pretty much straight away.
  • Obita will be delighted to have struck against Premier League opposition, while Anichebe will be relieved to have put his side back onto level terms. Where will it go from here? There's only one way to find out; stay tuned, the second half will begin in a few minutes!
  • You'd still have to make the visitors overwhelming favourites, however. Last year's semi-finalists know just what they're doing in a tournament they are very familiar with and a host of attacking options look as though they could put the Latics' cup run to a shuddering halt at any moment.
  • Well, so far so good for Oldham. Before the match, I asked if lightning can strike twice and so far the answer has been why not? They aren't in the lead and don't quite have the ascendancy they did against Liverpool. But the League One minnows are proving more than a match for David Moyes' men.
  • 45' + 2'
HALF-TIME! The referee blows his whistle and it's all square at the break.
  • 45' + 1'
You'd have to think that David Moyes will hardly be panicking at half-time, but the Scot will be aware of a potential upset. The visitors have now seen first-hand what the Latics are capable of against Premier League opposition, while you only have to look at Arsenal's defeat to Blackburn earlier today to see that anything is possible in this tournament.
  • 45'
Two minutes of injury time are announced.
  • 44'
What will either manager be saying during the break? The home side will surely be delighted with how things have panned out - although you could say they are unlucky not to have the lead.
  • 42'
The game has settled into a period of calm ahead of the fast approaching half-time break. However, the majority of the action is in the home half, so if anyone is to sneak a goal before the 45 is up, it would look to be Everton.
  • 40'
The resultant corner leads to a chance but Fellaini is unable to capitalise as his header sails over the bar. In fairness to the powerful Belgian, the fact that he got the ball anywhere near the goal from the position he was in just demonstrates his aerial presence.
  • 39'
The visitors have a corner! Gibson sends a good cross into the box but Croatian forward Jelavic mistimes his header, with an Oldham defender then clearing the ball out.
  • 37'
A great challenge from Wesolowski dispossesses Anichebe. Terrific work from the midfielder, who is a lifelong Liverpool fan. You'd imagine it would give him no end of pleasure to beat Everton, even though it was his side who prevented the Reds with the chance to do it themselves!
  • 36'
Bouzanis collects a cross and thumps a long ball upfield. Obita then takes the ball down but is tackled and the ball heads out for a throw-in.
  • 34'
Lee Croft was the man who assisted Oldham's opening goal, while Jelavic presented Anichebe with the ball for the equaliser. It's been an end to end battle for possession since.
  • 32'
The ball hits the net.. But Jelavic was already ruled offside for the away side before he applied his finish.
  • 31'
Early signs suggest an Oldham win is by no means out of the question - nor of course is the possibility of a replay at Goodison Park. The Latics' defensive ability will be the key to whether that happens as they have already proved their attacking prowess.
  • 30'
Distin's handball gave the set piece away just outside the area and it was Baxter who had a pop, only for the ball to head straight into the wall.
  • 29'
Warning: dangerous free kick for the home side!
  • 28'
Anichebe's place in the XI has seemingly been justified with the equaliser - Kevin Mirallas can only look on from the bench.
  • 27'
The hosts still look the better side here and but for a couple of inches, they would have the lead. The difference may just be Everton's ability to take their chances. The Premier League side have not had many shots but took their only real chance so far with aplomb.
  • 25'
CHANCE! Oldham almost retake the lead straight away! It was goalscorer Obita once more, a fantastic shot from just inside the box strikes the post! Howard was beaten - but sadly, the post wasn't.
  • 24'
    Goal Victor Anichebe
GOAL! Well, that lead didn't last long... Anichebe thunders the ball past Bouzanis straight into the back of the net. Jagielka's long ball was nodded down by Jelavic and Anichebe did the rest.
  • 22'
All credit to the home side here, they are controlling the ball well and are making this seem like a clash between two sides in the same division. Incidentally, while Oldham have won just three in 12, two of those wins have come in their last three...
  • 20'
The free kick is driven in by Pienaar but a near-post header clears the ball to safety. The home side then earn themselves a breather as the ball ricochets off Fellaini for a throw-in.
  • 19'
But Baines' footwork is just too good for the Oldham defenders and the Englishman wins his side a free kick just to the left of the penalty area.
  • 18'
Still the away side push, however, as Fellaini, Osman and Pienaar link up well in the opposition half. Fellaini eventually runs the ball into the box but it is cleared by Tarkovski.
  • 17'
The visitors look understandably shell-shocked and any attempts at an instant equaliser are falling short at the 'delivery' stage. Any long passes into Jelavic have floated off the pitch either for a goal kick or a throw in so far.
  • 16'
The home fans are in could nine here and the early goal seems to have taken everyone by surprise.
  • 13'
    Goal Jordan Obita
GOALLLLLLLLLL!!! You could not script this, Oldham have the lead!!! All of a sudden a break away from the home side meant it was two against two and a great cross-field ball found Obita, who tapped in at the far-post from only a few yards out.
  • 12'
Chris Iwelumo has got his head on the ensuing corner to clear it out for another one, however. At the age of 34, it's safe to say the Scottish striker has been around for a while.
  • 11'
Leighton Baines launches a trademark free kick at goal and it is headed out for a corner for the away side!
  • 10'
Jose Baxter gets himself onto the ball against his old side. The 21-year-old used to ply his trade for the Merseyside club but was sold to the Latics in 2012. He has been in fine form since.
  • 8'
Half-chance for Everton as Nikica Jelavic is harried off the ball by the home defenders before he can unleash a shot. The hosts were already 1-0 up early on the last time they played in this competition after an early Matt Smith strike against Liverpool.
  • 6'
Nothing comes of the set piece, however, and the ball works its way back into the middle of the park - where it has so far seemed most comfortable.
  • 5'
The visitors are keeping the ball well in the Oldham half and now have a free kick in an advanced position for their efforts.
  • 3'
A vocal home support has been the most active party of the game so far, but both sides already look as though they've settled in well.
  • 2'
Dean Bouzanis is involved early on, racing out to the penalty spot to collect a loose ball for the home side!
  • 1'
And we're off! Boundary Park is looking frosty...
  • However, Everton have not beaten Oldham in the FA Cup since 1912 and the Latics won the teams' last meeting in 2008, when they met in an FA Cup Third Round tie at Goodison Park. Will the heavens shine on Oldham once again? Stay with us to find out!
  • No one expected it and very few even believed it was happening - yet through to the fifth round Oldham progressed. Now, they face Liverpool's arch rivals Everton, who are unbeaten in their last seven away FA Cup ties. And they do so without the man who guided them to their famous win over the Reds - Paul Dickov, who resigned as manager shortly after due to the side's poor league form.
  • So with kick-of due at 6pm sharp, the big question is: can lightning strike twice? Three weeks ago, the Latics - who are in the relegation zone in League One, having won just three times in their last 12 games - beat Liverpool at Boundary Park in the fourth round.
  • And the visitors are lining up like this: Howard; Neville, Baines, Jagielka, Distin; Osman, Pienaar, Gibson, Fellaini; Anichebe, Jelavic. Subs: Mucha, Heitinga, Oviedo, Mirallas, Naismith, Hitzlsperger, Duffy.
  • First, I'll kick straight off with the team news. The home side for you: Bouzanis; Brown, Mvoto, Tarkowski, Grounds; Croft, Obita, Wesolowski, Baxter; Iwelumo, Barnard. Subs: Cisak, Furman, Simpson, Matt Smith, Byrne, Miller and Winchester.
  • Good evening all and welcome to's LIVE! play-by-play coverage of Oldham Athletic versus Everton in the fifth round of the FA Cup. I'm Tim Poole and I'll be guiding you through another 90 minutes of pulsating - and potentially giant-killing - football.
