Did well to palm away a shot from Arnautovic on two occasions in the first half and denied Prodl with the faintest of touches at his near post. Could not get near Janko's header as Austria found a way back into the game.
The captain very nearly put the ball into his own net in the third minute but was saved by Matthews. Made an exceptional challenge to deny Janko the space to shoot but was nowhere as the striker pulled a goal back.
Intercepted a poor Alaba pass and cleverly found Bale on the opposite flank as Wales went two up. Allowed Weimann little opportunity to test him before the Aston Villa man was substituted.
Allowed Janko too much space to cause problems at times, but made some important blocks. Like Williams, could have done more to stop the striker scoring, but will be pleased with his night's work overall.
Was well placed at the far post to clear a deflected effort after just two minutes. Twice got into good attacking positions and crossed but could not find anyone. Eventually came off for Gunter.
Replaced at half time by King, but had played well, feeding Bellamy an opportunity to put Wales in front, though the striker dragged his shot wide.
Did not take long for the winger to make his first strides forward, but his cross could not find Bellamy. Showed great control to bring down Allen's pass and open the scoring with an equally precise finish, before crossing brilliantly for Vokes to double the lead with a header after the break. Yet another superb performance from the Tottenham star, who came off on the hour mark.
Played a perfect chipped pass from midfield to find Bale as the hosts went in front. Overrun at times in midfield but stuck to his task of pressing while the opposition were in possession well.
Tried to find Bellamy as the striker made early runs, but needed to close down Alaba quicker at times as the youngster dominated in midfield. Came off for Church with little over five minutes to play and can be happy enough with his return after injury.
Had his work cut out for him as part of a midfield charged with pressing the likes of Arnautovic and Alaba. Managed to break forward in the second half but fired over the bar.
Was inches away from opening the scoring with a shot which was dragged across goal. Chased everything as the lone striker and linked up with the midfield to great effect in the first half. Subbed at half time for Sam Vokes.
Replaced Vaughan at half time and looked sharp, moving the ball quickly and precisely.
A second half introduction in place of Bale. Showed similar pace to the Tottenham man and threatened, but could not find a killer blow.
Replaced Collison towards the end of the game.
Came on up front at the interval for Bellamy and wasted no time in getting on the scoresheet, capitalising on an excellent Bale cross to head home in a lively second half performance.
Could not stop Bale's opener, which was too accurately finished for the 28-year-old to reach, while Vokes' header possessed too much power to stop.
Struggled with the pace of both Bellamy and Bale early on and did little to challenge Vokes for Wales' second goal after the interval. The West Ham man had the ball in the net, but saw the goal ruled out for offside.
Completely powerless to stop the pacey Bale from darting beyond him in the first half. Would have been glad to see the winger depart after an hour, and was replaced by Schiemer late on.
Made a vital interception to prevent Bellamy from a free run at goal after Collison's pass. Went unmarked from a set piece and nearly equalised but found Myhill in good form at his near post.
Should have levelled the score after latching onto a Myhill save, but lacked composure and lifted his shot over the bar. Brought off for Januzovic in the second half.
Usually plays at left-back for Bayern Munich, but pulled all the strings in the centre of midfield and was unlucky not to equalise, striking the post with a spectacular volley from 30 yards. Gave the ball away with a needless pass in the build-up to the second Wales goal, but was otherwise exceptional.
Booked for a foul on Ben Davies in a first half in which he struggled. Fared better after the break but was one of the visitors' more anonymous performers.
Replaced by Leitgeb in the second half - shortly after the visitors pulled a goal back - after doing little to impact the game.
Largely out of the action during the first half despite Austria controlling large periods. Came off for Jantscher.
A lively display from the start. Forced the first save of the game from Myhill with a powerful shot, before thundering another at the West Brom keeper which was well saved. Provided the perfect cross for Janko to power beyond Myhill.
Thought he'd set up Pogatetz with a header across goal after going unmarked from a set piece but was correctly ruled offside. Found some good pockets of space, connecting with an attacking three behind him and finally scored with a firm header into the top corner.
Replaced Suttner with just a few minutes to play.
Came on for the quiet Kavlak as Austria chased for the equaliser and was instantly far livelier than his team-mate.
Came on for the quiet Weimann with half an hour to play but did little more than the Aston Villa man to change the outcome of the game.
Replaced Ivanschitz in the second half and was as involved as the man he replaced, but could not grab the game by the scruff of the neck.
