VAN GAAL REACTION

The United boss told MUTV: "It's my wife's birthday, so we've given her a fantastic present! It's always difficult to come in and adapt to the Premier League, but the new players did very well."

STATS ROUND-UP

A first win under Louis van Gaal and a convincing display to boot. Courtesy of our buddies at Opta, here's a little round-up of some key Manchester United stats from today's game...

- Ander Herrera made more tackles (8) and completed more passes (77) today than he did in any La Liga game in 2013-14

- Wayne Rooney scored his 175th Premier League goal, meaning he is now joint-level with Thierry Henry in the all-time PL goal list

- Man Utd scored three times before half-time in the Premier League at Old Trafford for the first time since winning the title vs Aston Villa in Apr 2013

DI MARIA REACTION

Speaking to Sky Sports through team-mate/English tutor Juan Mata, Angel Di Maria says he DID mean to score when his free-kick delivery missed everyone and got the scoring under way in the first half. Mata, who scored his eighth goal in 10 games, adds: “From beginning to end we tried to score - that’s what we have to do at United.”

SCOUTING REPORT

Goal’s Gill Clark on Wayne Rooney’s display: “While Angel Di Maria will steal the headlines, Rooney was in impressive form, scoring once and assisting another as the Red Devils romped to victory, with the club’s new signings helping bring out the best in the striker. Much has been made of where Rooney will play following the arrivals of Di Maria and Radamel Falcao, but he made a telling contribution to justify his starting spot.”

FULL-TIME SUMMARY

An excellent performance from Manchester United against a QPR side that just didn’t turn up. Four goals from four different goalscorers, a magnificent performance from Angel Di Maria and a debut for Radamel Falcao - it couldn’t have got much better. Reports, ratings and reaction coming up.

JANUZAJ GOES CLOSE

Not once, but twice. Robin van Persie cuts the ball back inside the area but it just escapes the path of Radamel Falcao. It then falls nicely for Adnan Januzaj but the Belgian’s effort is saved by Robert Green. A minute later, he has another opportunity to have a crack at goal but blazes well over when he is better positioned to find a team-mate.

MAN OF THE MATCH

It goes without saying, but today’s man of the match award goes to... *DRUMROLL* ...Angel Di Maria. A goal and an assist for the Argentine today.

FALCAO CHANCE!

Daley Blind has a shot from distance that Robert Green can only parry. Radamel Falcao sprints to follow it up but, from a narrow angle, can only shoot at the goalkeeper. That would have wrapped up the perfect day for Manchester United.

SUBSTITUTION

Oh. Perhaps not. It doesn’t look to be an injury but off goes star-of-the-show Angel Di Maria. On comes new No.11 Adnan Januzaj in his place.

DI MARIA WATCH

Like against Burnley, Angel Di Maria is down with cramp. He receives treatment from the physio on the pitch but looks fine to continue.

14/09/2014

VARGAS CHANCE!

Marcos Rojo wins possession on the edge of his own area and Tyler Blackett looks set to clear. He lets the ball run across his body, though, and Eduardo Vargas pounces to control and drill a shot just wide of the far post.

14/09/2014

SUBSTITUTION

Manchester United can bring on Radamel Falcao at 4-0 up. QPR at 4-0 down? Karl Henry. Ouch. He comes on to replace debutant Sandro, who seems to have picked up a knock.

14/09/2014

VAN PERSIE CHANCE

Radamel Falcao is waiting on the far side of the six-yard box for a cross from Robin van Persie. The angle is tight and the Dutchman can only scoop a cross/shot up and onto the angle of crossbar and post. Decent opportunity.

VIEW FROM OLD TRAFFORD

Paul Macdonald reports: “A rapturous reception for Radamel Falcao, who replaces Juan Mata, and has the QPR defence looking to the heavens in dismay. Not the face they wanted to see at 4-0 down.”

SUBSTITUTION - FALCAO ON!

Here he is! Off goes Juan Mata, having scored his eighth goal in 10 games, and on comes Radamel Falcao to make his Manchester United debut. Almighty applause around Old Trafford. There’s another change, too - Antonio Valencia replaces Rafael.
