This will be the first time Ashley Cole has played in England since leaving the Premier League for Serie A. There have been reports that he is unhappy at Roma and is already keen on a return to England. However, Cole said yesterday: "I love to play in Italy and I love Italy... I like the Premier League but also where I am. The decision to leave [Chelsea] was not wrong."
Our buddies at Opta have put together a bunch of stat attacks to beat all stat attacks ahead of this week’s games. Did you know, for example, that Ashley Cole is set to become just the 11th Englishman to play for a non-British club in the Champions League? For more statisfying stats, look no further...
Opta's Champions League preview
Sporting coach Marco Silva: "Chelsea are favourites, not only to win the group but also to be in the final together with four or five others. It will be a match with a very high level of difficulty but with our quality and the right attitude we can challenge for the points here."
Simon Harrison reports: "Bayern maintain their 100 per cent record in Group E. A Thomas Muller penalty was enough to settle the scoreline, with both sides having plenty of opportunities to net the contest's elusive second goal. Two losses from two for CSKA, but Pep Guardiola will be pleased with an efficient away performance from Die Roten."
On the topic of Champions League hundreds, Bayern Munich’s 1-0 win over CSKA Moscow was their 100th victory since the Champions League began. Thomas Muller grabbed the only goal of the game with a first-half penalty. You can check out how all the players on show fared in our ratings...

Aaaaand breathe. All the team news is in and the big news is that Diego Costa STARTS for Chelsea against Sporting. It was expected, granted, but it’s still a huge call by Jose Mourinho. The goalscoring machine was only on the bench for the draw with Schalke on matchday one and Mourinho has said again and again that he cannot play three games in a week. We’ll be on hamstring watch this evening...

Concerns? Pah! What concerns? Despite calling on Spain to leave Diego Costa out of the upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers due to worries over his training schedule, Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho will risk the striker from the start against Sporting. The professional hamstring aggravator played 81 minutes in another goalscoring display over Aston Villa at the weekend. Will he last tonight?
Right on cue, Manchester City announce their team for tonight's game. As confirmed by Manuel Pellegrini, Joe Hart returns in goal. Sergio Aguero, a substitute against Bayern Munich two weeks ago, is also in from the start, but Eliaquim Mangala is only on the bench. Full team news on the way shortly, but here's how City line up...
City XI: Hart; Zabaleta, Kompany, Demichelis, Clichy; Navas, Fernandinho, Yaya Toure, Silva; Aguero, Dzeko.
Subs: Caballero, Sagna, Kolarov, Milner, Lampard, Jovetic, Mangala.
Dropped at the weekend, Joe Hart is set to replace Willy Caballero to start in goal. The England No.1 has voiced his frustration at Manuel Pellegrini rotating his goalkeepers but said ahead of this evening’s game that he will stay at Manchester City for as long as they want him.
Hart: Man City more than ready for Roma
Champions League veterans Porto are the early leaders in Group H after smashing six past BATE Borisov two weeks ago. They face a tough test this evening with a trip Lviv to face Shakhtar Donetsk, who picked up a point at Athletic Bilbao on matchday one. And it’s a big game for Bilbao, struggling so far this season, too - they’re currently 16th in La Liga.
