MAN CITY 0-1 NEWCASTLE - PRESSURE FROM CITY

Gary Maiden reports from the Etihad Stadium: “The woodwork has just about spared Fabricio Coloccini’s blushes as Manchester City pile on the pressure in search of the equaliser. Aleksandar Kolarov drills a low cross towards goal and Coloccini slices his attempted clearance against the far post. In the same attack, Samir Nasri’s curled cross is met by Stevan Jovetic at the back post but he can’t keep his volley down. Better from the hosts.”

STOKE 0-1 SOUTHAMPTON - HOSTS WASTEFUL

Jonathan Davies reports: “Stoke unlock the visitors in the right-back area but Arnautovic's ball across the area evades Diouf, who appears to dummy the ball in anticipation that it would run for Walters, but Saints are able to clear.”

TOTTENHAM 0-0 BRIGHTON - PENALTY? NOPE!

Alex Young reports from White Hart Lane: “Another lucky escape for Brighton as Aaron Lennon's corner is headed back across goal and cleared near the line by Aaron Hughes. Seconds later, the captain tries to run onto Roberto Soldado's backwards header and is brought down inside the penalty area. Mark Clattenburg waves away any protests.”

MAN CITY 0-1 NEWCASTLE - BIG CHANCE!

Gary Maiden reports from the Etihad Stadium: “How has that stayed out? An inviting Samir Nasri cross from the right wing finds its way to Stevan Jovetic at the far post. The former Fiorentina man is completely unmarked and ought to pull his side level but Rob Elliot does well to throw himself in front of the ball to save a certain equaliser.”

TOTTENHAM 0-0 BRIGHTON - SPURS ON TOP

Alex Young reports from White Hart Lane: “Promising start from Tottenham with Harry Kane forcing an early corner and Andros Townsend showing eagerness down the right flank. It's patient from the hosts so far but Brighton are seeing little of the ball.”

TOTTENHAM v BRIGHTON

Alex Young checks in from White Hart Lane: “The teams are on the pitch at White Hart Lane ahead of the delayed kick-off time of 8pm. Mauricio Pochettino and Sami Hyypia share a little joke and an extended chat on the touchline. We are only a few minutes away from kick-off now.”

VIEW FROM THE ETIHAD STADIUM

Gary Maiden reports: “Manchester City hadn’t conceded a single goal in the last five meetings with Newcastle before tonight. Barely five minutes on the clock and Rolando Aarons has put the Magpies ahead. Fernandinho was caught napping in possession by Jack Colback who found Aarons down the right. The pacey winger did superbly to slide the ball under the advancing Willy Caballero and send the away fans into raptures. To add insult to injury for the hosts, David Silva has just been replaced after taking an early knock. What a start.”

EXHIBIT C: THEY DON’T HAVE GARETH BALE

Any club is going to miss their star player, but especially when said player is the most expensive in the history of the game. Spurs didn’t invest the Gareth Bale money wisely and have been left with a squad full of options but, Rabona Man aside, lacking real talent.

EXHBIT B: THE PITCH ISN’T BIG ENOUGH

Yep, apparently. According to Mauricio Pochettino, the White Hart Lane pitch is so tight that it hinders his side’s “positional play” and suits the opposition more. “Our style means we need a bigger place to play,” says The Poch.
