GROUP H PREVIEW

Champions League veterans Porto are the early leaders in Group H after smashing six past BATE Borisov two weeks ago. They face a tough test this evening with a trip Lviv to face Shakhtar Donetsk, who picked up a point at Athletic Bilbao on matchday one. And it’s a big game for Bilbao, struggling so far this season, too - they’re currently 16th in La Liga.

GROUP G PREVIEW

Speaking of underwhelming starts, Chelsea could only draw 1-1 against Schalke at Stamford Bridge on matchday one, making tonight’s fixtures all the more important, and Maribor scored in added time to earn a point against Sporting in Slovenia. Jose Mourinho is vying to become the first manager EVER to win the Champions League with three different clubs. Is this the season?

GROUP F PREVIEW

We had a rather underwhelming start to Group F. Paris Saint-Germain took the lead away to Ajax but had to settle for a 1-1 draw, while Barcelona saw off APOEL with a narrow 1-0 win at Camp Nou. So often throughout the years these big group-stage meetings have failed to live up to the hype. Prediction? GOALS.

GROUP E PREVIEW

Manchester City have tasted plenty of success on the domestic front in recent seasons but continue to struggle on the European stage. They fell to a late defeat at Bayern Munich a fortnight ago and will see tonight as a must-not-lose fixture if they’re to emerge from one of the toughest groups in this season’s competition.

CSKA MOSCOW 0-1 BAYERN MUNICH - LATEST

So, as you can see, we have an early game going on as we type. Bayern Munich lead 1-0 away to CSKA Moscow after Thomas Muller converted from the penalty spot. It was a dubious award, it must be said. The match is being played behind closed doors due to racist chants from CSKA fans last season. Follow all the LIVE updates below.

GLANCE AROUND THE GLOBE

It’s all over in La Liga, where Valencia stay second after drawing 1-1 with Real Sociedad. The action doesn’t end there, though - there’s still games going on in Spain, Italy and France this evening. You can follow all the line-ups, stats and goals below.

TOP OF THE WEEKEND

Sorry, Jose, but this one goes to Southampton. Chelsea continue to lead the way on 16 points but trailing closely behind, on 13 points, are Ronald Koeman’s men. Favourites to be among the relegation candidates at the start of the season, new-look Saints have put together six wins in a row in all competitions.

FLOP OF THE WEEKEND: PART TWO

As for a team, it’s got to be Burnley. Four goals conceded, just one chance created and a poor performance all round sees the newly promoted club drop to the bottom of the table. They’ve scored just one goal all season - against Chelsea, of all opponents - and look certainties for a swift return to the Championship.

FLOP OF THE WEEKEND

Only one man can take this award: Wayne Rooney. Today was supposed to be about the striker marking the 10-year anniversary of his debut at Manchester United. Instead, we’re talking about a straight red card he received for a silly, reckless kick on Stewart Downing. A ban awaits...

MOMENT OF THE WEEKEND: PART TWO

Looking further around Europe, a nod to Lionel Messi. The Barcelona superstar scored goals No.400 and No.401 of his career in a 6-0 demolition of Granada. "I never imagined I could achieve anything like this in my career," he wrote on Facebook after the game. "I'll continue working hard to reach more targets."

MOMENT OF THE WEEKEND

He just missed out on goal of the weekend, so this one goes to Phil Jagielka. The centre-back was the unlikely hero for Everton with an outstanding equaliser deep into added time of the Merseyside derby. “I AM ACTUALLY SHAKING,” messaged our reporter at the ground. And that rather sums it all up...

STAT OF THE WEEKEND

Time to step it up, Mario...

GOAL OF THE WEEKEND

Crikey. Options, options, options. Phil Jagielka scored an absolute belter in stoppage time to earn Everton a Merseyside derby draw, while Charlie Austin controlled, turned and finished brilliantly to score for QPR at St Mary's. But this one just has to go to Graziano Pelle for a magnificent overhead kick for Southampton. Bravo, Graziano, bravo.

RESULT OF THE WEEKEND

You know that, I reckon this one goes to West Brom. A defeat, or even a draw, would have seen serious questions asked of Alan Irvine, an underwhelming appointment in the summer, again but his side have now put together three wins on the spin and are up to the top half of the table. Fair play.

MILAN REACTION

AC Milan coach Pippo Inzaghi: "Unfortunately we had the game in control and created a lot in the first half but, when you work so hard and don't score in this heat, you will pay eventually. We played very well in the first half then got stretched out and it was tough to win after going down to 10 men. We probably deserved to score a second."

Inzaghi: Milan deserved to win

INTER REACTION

Inter coach Walter Mazzarri to Sky Sport Italia: "I made some mistakes when evaluating the squad rotation. I thought the team was in great shape this week and didn't pay enough attention to the fitness levels so I played some players who were on their third or fourth games in a row and that showed."

Mazzarri: I picked the wrong team
