"It was a night where many would have expected the Premier League side to run riot, especially given their poor start to their Premier League campaign. However, they were greeted at Stadium:MK by a plucky League One side with nothing to lose.
"Louis van Gaal's men started brightly and looked most likely to score, with strike duo Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez causing all sorts of trouble behind the Dons back-four - but Jonny Evans' mistake opened the floodgates for a cup upset.
"Will Grigg bagged two as Benik Afobe netted his own brace from the bench on an inspiring night for the Football League side. The perfect performance for Karl Robinson's men but not even Angel Di Maria's arrival will lift Red Devils' spirits after this thumping. United never got out of first gear and top stars Welbeck, Hernandez, Shinji Kagawa, Evans and Anderson failed to deliver on the night. Not what you would want to show the man who is tasked with your future at Old Trafford."
"What a night this has been for MK Dons. Many had expected a thumping before kick-off, but few would have expected it to be Louis van Gaal's side that went home with their tails between their legs. Grigg and Bowditch inspirational, Reeves creative and Afobe effective from the bench. United, well... Report reads 'must do better'."
"This. Is. Incredible. Benik Afobe with the second brace of the night as the United defence are left scrambling and the inquest begins. He gets past three Reds defenders and blasts past De Gea. It may be a young United side, but this is an embarrasment."
"It's almost four! Reeves' cross spins hopefully towards De Gea's near post, and thanks to fine margins, the Spaniard stops the ball from crossing the line. United very poor, Dons rampant. This is cup football...
"United huff and puff and Januzaj hits the outside of the post with an excellent shot - but it, much like his side's evening - fails to come to anything."

90 + 3 Agony for Celtic! van Dijk controls McGregor's cross but his volley is saved by the keeper. So close.— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) August 26, 2014
"Daniel Powell goes forward and it could have easily been four for MK Dons, but De Gea gets his feet on the ball. Dons coasting into the next round as Van Gaal's side desparately look for a late way back into the match."
Dan Brett reports from Stadium:MK: "He's only been on for a matter of minutes but Afobe puts the nail in United's League Cup coffin. United, once again, give the ball away in an unforgiving area and Reeves tees up his team-mate to tuck under De Gea.It's turning into a cricket score here..."
Unbelievable. Reeves sets through Afobe and he cooly slots past De Gea to send the Dons faithful in frenzy behind the goal. 3-0 #MKDvMAN— MK Dons FC (@MKDonsFC) August 26, 2014
88 Tavares spurns a chance to seal the victory as he blasts over from Bohar's pass.— Celtic Football Club (@celticfc) August 26, 2014
Dan Brett reports from Stadium:MK: "It's Grigg again! The striker, with an audacious chest past David de Gea, puts MK Dons two goals up against Manchester United and they have one foot into the next round! Fantastic ball into the box by Danny Green- pinpoint accuracy - and the forward nets with aplomb to send the home fans into raptures!!"
63: MK DONS GOAL!!!!!!! WILL GRIGG AGAIN!!!!!!!!! 2-0 #MKDvMAN— MK Dons FC (@MKDonsFC) August 26, 2014
"Disaster for Celtic. Maribor take the lead on the night and on aggregate as Emilio Izaguirre and Charlie Mulgrew both fail to clear before Tavares loops the ball agonisingly out of the reach over Craig Gordon."
