KOUYATE CONCERN

Cheikhou Kouyate can’t continue. Problem: West Ham have already made their changes. He’s suffered a recurrence of the groin injury which almost forced him off in the first half. Surely Sam Allardyce will instruct his side to play with 10 men? Nope! Kouyate is back on in the heart of midfield. This could be interesting...

SUBSTITUTIONS

A reluctant Fabio Borini is about to take a corner but is forced to the sidelines to be replaced by Rickie Lambert. Attack, attack, attack! And James Collins is on for Enner Valencia. Defend, defend, defend!

END-TO-END STUFF

A chance for West Ham as Diafra Sakho clips over from just outside the area, and then Mario Balotelli wins Liverpool a corner after forcing a save out of Adrian at his near post with a powerful hit from a tight angle. Change for the Hammers - Morgan Amalfitano is on for Alex Song.

VIEW FROM UPTON PARK

Liam Twomey reports: “Liverpool's new formation has shifted the momentum in this match and the Upton Park crowd is now showing its anxious side, groaning with every misplaced pass from the home side and forward surge from the visitors. Adam Lallana's trickery in the final third is beginning to cause problems and, after an anonymous first half, Fabio Borini's intelligent movement is starting to worry the West Ham defence.”

SUBSTITUTION - JENKINSON ON, DEMEL OFF

Summer loan signing Carl Jenkinson is on for West Ham, replacing Guy Demel, and is already in the book for a foul on Alberto Moreno.

BORINI GOES CLOSE

Alberto Moreno marauds forward and cuts inside from the left to combine well with Adam Lallana, who has a penalty claim waved away, just inside the West Ham area. The hosts fail to clear and the ball falls kindly for Fabio Borini to curl a right-footed effort just over from around 16 yards out. Worth a go.

LOVREN COLLISION

This is what happens when players with head injuries remain on the pitch. Enner Valencia seems to inadvertently catch Dejan Lovren (and the bandage around his head) with his elbow. Lovren gets knocked to the ground but is straight back on his feet to get all up in Valencia’s grill. The referee has a word and they’re both best buds a minute later.

BORINI CHANCE

Liverpool are looking really dangerous on the counter. Their latest swift attack sees Mario Balotelli turn well on halfway before threading a wonderful pass through to Fabio Borini who, from a narrow angle on the right side of the area, can only shoot straight at West Ham goalkeeper Adrian.

STERLING WATCH

Better from Liverpool. They’re on the attack early on in this second half and have already had West Ham worried with two efforts from Raheem Sterling - one going wide, one getting deflected.

SECOND HALF - LALLANA ON, LUCAS OFF

Liam Twomey reports from Upton Park: “Liverpool ended the first half in the ascendancy and Brendan Rodgers is determined that his side keep moving forward in search of an equaliser, sending on £25 million summer signing Adam Lallana in place of the ineffective Lucas Leiva.”

SCOUTING REPORT

Speaking of Mesut Ozil, we wondered whether he was worthy of a place in the starting XI earlier, but he went some way to proving his critics wrong by scoring the opener and setting up a goal for Danny Welbeck in a comfortable 3-0 win over Aston Villa. All three goals, by the way, were scored inside a spell of just 195 seconds. QUICKFIRE.

ASTON VILLA 0-3 ARSENAL - REACTION

Arsene Wenger on Mesut Ozil: "Ozil played today behind their midfield because they make it very tight in the middle. It was important to find him through the lines to turn the game forward. It worked. He can play everywhere. I believe that the team played well and after that it's easier for everybody."

WEST HAM 2-1 LIVERPOOL - SUMMARY

If such a thing exists, I imagine this is The West Ham Way fans have been referring to for so many years. It was a brilliant first-half performance from the Hammers and they could easily be going into half-time with a few more goals. Liverpool are nowhere near the standard of last season and have produced a display similar to their defeat against Aston Villa last week. Time to step up...

HALF-TIME: West Ham 2-1 Liverpool

18:19 BST

20/09/2014

TIME'S TICKING...

It looks like we'll be heading into half-time with West Ham leading 2-1. The best chance in added time sees Enner Valencia have a free kick deflected away by the Liverpool wall.

ADDED TIME

We'll have SIX minutes added on following that head injury to Dejan Lovren.
