CAN NEWCASTLE GET A GOAL AGAINST ARSENAL!?!?

Little sympathy for live bloggers amongst Premier League players today, as the goals continue to fly in.

To give him the moment he deserves, Jamie Carragher is brought off for Liverpool to a rapturous reception from all fans, the veteran being replaced by Sebastian Coates. His 30 yard screamer smashing against the woodwork was a notable moment in this individual performance, but his defending today was a reflection of the man’s capability at the back and showing how he could easily carry on for another season, at least.

Up North, the life was sapped from Newcastle's play when Yohan Cabaye was withdrawn shortly after they went behind, and Arsenal have since dominated possession here at St James' Park. The Gunners' fans are in fine voice high up to my left as their side look set to seal a fourth place finish, and in doing so secure Champions League football for the next campaign.

'But what's happening at Anfield?!', I hear you cry. Well worry not, readers, here's our man on Merseyside:

@This second-half has been a constant bombardment on the QPR box, with Liverpool attempting to put this game to bed, but the indecision from the likes of Daniel Sturridge and stern goalkeeping from Robert Green, the hosts just can’t breakthrough to get that vital second goal. And as I type, the visitor’s shot-stopper makes another great save to deny the Reds getting true daylight between the two sides."

At Upton Park, all Reading's hard work has been undone as West Ham take an undeserved lead. Andy Carroll is allowed far too much space in midfield as he lays the ball off to Mark Noble, who plays a through ball to Kevin Nolan and the midfielder, one on one with Alex McCarthy, cooly slots past the Reading goalkeeper.

Plenty of sentiment at the Hawthorns. Javier Hernandez, who usually only has eyes for the goal, is perfectly placed to volley in Man United's sixth but opts instead to lay off the ball to Paul Scholes. It drifts harmlessly wide of the midfielder and West Brom are reprieved.

GOAL!!! Chelsea 2-1 Everton (Torres)

After yoyo-ing violently end-to-end Fernando Torres finally puts a finishing touch on one of Chelsea's many forays forward, volleying home Victor Moses' knockdown at the near post. HE'S BACK!

RED CARD! Tottenham 0-0 Sunderland (Vaughan)

David Vaughan is sent-off for Sunderland for a second booking as he hacks down Tottenham midfielder Aaron Lennon with a mistimed challenge.

Another chance for Tottenham! Gareth Bale gets on the end of Jan Vertonghen’s long pass, twists Jack Colback inside out, but sees his right-footed shot saved by Simon Mignolet. The Sunderland goalkeeper was very quick off his line there.

In the Black Country, Paul Scholes has come on for Man United in what is the 718th and final match of his magnificent career. He replaces Shinji Kagawa, who has been excellent this afternoon.

A sentimental moment at the Britannia, as Michael Owen comes off the bench for what will be the final appearance of his career.

There will surely not be a dry eye in the house, given that Owen has written himself into Stoke City folklore with his exemplary fitness record and superhuman goalscoring feats since joining the club.

MISINFORMATION circulating at White Hart Lane, where the home fans seem to think Newcastle have equalised. (They haven't). It doesn't matter too much right now though, as Spurs need to get their own job done and beat Woeful Sunderland. It's still 0-0 there, with Spurs throwing the kitchen sink, the bathtub, and much of the plumbing at the opposition goal with little reward thus far.

What a send-off this is turning out to be for Sir Alex Ferguson. His team have now put five past West Brom and there are still another 26 minutes to play. The beast has been re-awakened.

At Anfield, Jamie Carragher's just leathered one against the post from 30 yards. Ludicrous.

The Hawthornes:

At the hour mark, Ryan Giggs, 39, replaces Tom Cleverley. This is not just sentiment, either. Cleverley has faded in the second half and Ferguson has deemed it the right time to introduce the nous of Man United's record appearance-maker.
