Newcastle make one last change with the introduction of Remy Cabella for Sammy Ameobi. Two minutes plus added time to be a hero.
Key syllable: STALE. Newcastle are pressing late on but don’t look like breaking down an extremely stubborn Sunderland defence. This one’s ending goalless...
Connor Wickham had numerous chances in the first half but has been quiet for much of the second. He’s replaced by Will Buckley.
Another big chance goes begging. Adam Johnson times his run brilliantly to receive the ball on the edge of the Newcastle box. He then feigns a shot to send Fabricio Coloccini flying, but he can only side-foot his resulting effort wide of the far post. Really should have scored.
Liverpool: Jones, Toure, Skrtel, Sakho, Lucas, Henderson, Markovic, Coutinho, Gerrard, Lallana, Sterling. Subs: Mignolet, Enrique, Lambert, Moreno, Manquillo, Can, Borini.
Arsenal: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Gibbs, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Cazorla, Alexis, Giroud, Welbeck. Subs: Martinez, Monreal, Coquelin, Maitland-Niles, Campbell, Walcott, Podolski.
It’s Cheick Tiote OFF, super-sub Papiss Cisse ON.
Graeme Bailey reports: “Again things have turned around at St James' with Newcastle doing all the pressing now. Sissoko is driving them forward and Sunderland look happy to play on the counter. This game could still go either way.”
What a waste from Adam Armstrong. The 17-year-old has Moussa Sissoko arriving late at the far post and only has to knock the ball across goal for a simple tap-in. Instead, he goes it alone and has his shot from a tight angle easily saved.
Lee Cattermole - on a booking - is replaced by Liam Bridcutt.
Much better from Newcastle as Moussa Sissoko rolls the ball across the edge of the area and lays it on a plate for the unmarked Ayoze Perez. The young Spaniard shoots first-time but Costel Pantilimon pulls off a fine, diving save to tip the ball over the crossbar.
Daryl Janmaat is given plenty of space by the Sunderland defence and continues his run from right-back down the wing and into the centre. He has options in the middle but chooses to go it alone, shooting weellllll wide of the target with a poor effort.

Yoan Gouffran is replaced by 17-year-old local lad Adam Armstrong. Big call from Alan Pardew with Papiss Cisse on the bench.
Moments after Lee Cattermole enters the book, there’s an almighty roar for Steven Taylor - face battered and bruised - as he runs back on after having treatment. WARRIOR.
Graeme Bailey reports: “A few changes around the field - Gouffran has moved more centrally with Sissoko on the right now, whilst Coates appears to have gone to right-back with O'Shea to the left and Vergini in the middle. Shape of both sides is the same.”
With Steven Taylor off the pitch receiving further treatment, Sunderland hit Newcastle on the counter and are three versus three as they approach the penalty area. Jordi Gomez is left completely unmarked as the ball is rolled across goal but he somehow skies a close-range effort well over.
Graeme Bailey reports: “Horrible collision with the post for Steven Taylor as Steven Fletcher challenged him. Be hard to see him continuing. Mike Williamson getting himself ready. Must be noted that it was great defending from Taylor to head clear off the line ahead of Fletcher...”
This looks like a nasty one for Steven Taylor. The defender challenges for the ball inside his own six-yard box with Steven Fletcher and his head collides against with the post. A stretcher is brought on but he’s back on his feet now and receiving treatment.
