WORLD CUP FINAL NEWS

Two pieces of World Cup news to bring you. It's been confirmed today that Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella will leave his role after the tournament regardless of the result of Sunday's showdown with Germany, while Fifa has announced that Nicola Rizzoli will referee the final. The Italian's most high-profile match to date came in 2013 when he took charge of the Champions League final between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich.

BESIC SCOUTING REPORT

Goal's Peter Staunton wrote about Besic after his display against Argentina: "From relative obscurity Besic was suddenly marking Messi at the Maracana in a World Cup. It may have been a sudden rise but the 21-year-old was certainly not overawed by the task at hand. There was a maturity in his game against Argentina that belied his years and contradicted the impression some had of him as a hot-head."

WORLD CUP FINAL

Germany captain Philipp Lahm: "A lot of our players have experience of playing in big finals with big clubs. That's definitely an advantage for us. You never know how far you will go, but we've prepared well, worked as a team and now we're one step away. I'm looking forward to the final. We want simply to become world champion. [If we won] I would go to bed early...or maybe in the early hours."

STAT ATTACK

Kieran Richardson scored two goals - both against USA - in eight appearances during his spell in the England squad prior to the 2006 World Cup. That's more goals than Jack Wilshere, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Raheem Sterling, Adam Lallana and Ross Barkley COMBINED.

#WELCOMEKIERAN

The former Manchester United midfielder leaves relegated Fulham to join the club he almost signed for as a 14-year-old. He told the club's official website: "Villa Park itself has always been my favourite stadium out of all of the stadiums in which I've played in the Premier League. It's got great atmosphere, the fans are magnificent and I'm really looking forward to playing here. I know I'm going to love it."

MOURINHO SPEAKS

Interesting stuff from Jose Mourinho today. Speaking in his role as Yahoo’s Global Football Ambassador, the Chelsea manager said Arjen Robben has been the star of the World Cup, Paul Pogba has been the best young player (*HINT HINT*) and Manuel Neuer is on course to be the tournament's top goalkeeper. He also said Lionel Messi is NOT the greatest player of all time. Miaow!
