Marseille endured yet another loss this week in Champions League play but will look to keep pace with the top three in France when it hosts Montpellier on Friday.
Marseille has long been finished in the Champins League, losing all five games thus far, including a 2-0 loss to Arsenal on Tuesday. The club's performance in domestic play has been better, however, with the Mediterranean side currently sitting in fourth spot in the table with a record of 7-4-3 this season. Marseille has won two straight league games, but it's been fickle at home with an even three wins and losses from six matches.
The hosts are listed at 1.83 for the outright win and 2.80 for the halftime/fulltime result. They have defeated Montpellier in their last two matches, but fatigue could be a factor here.
The draw pick offers solid value at 3.40 merely because Montpellier has nine draws from 14 games this year (64%), two more than any other team in Ligue 1. Four of those draws have come on the road from six games. Add in three straight 1-1 league draws for Montpellier, plus Marseille's possible exhaustion, and this pick is something to seriously ponder.
Montpellier is the natural underdog here with a payout of 4.50 available for the outright, but without a single win on the road this year a victory would certainly be an upset.
Marseille home and Montpellier away games have both produced an average of 3.17 goals per match. The over 2.5 total goals is at 2.10, and for that price I like that to crack.
If Montpellier is to produce another 1-1 draw, that would payout 7.00. It's one of those bets where a $10 wager is worth the risk.
Lastly, take a look at Andre-Pierre Gignac to score here at 2.00. He has six goals this season for Marseille.
