The L.A. Galaxy and Seattle Sounders have already locked up playoff spots, but a win tonight for either side secures some rest and a guaranteed second round appearance.
How the MLS playoff system works is that the top five teams in each conference make it in. However, the fourth and fifth placed teams go into a one-game playoff hosted by the fourth seed. Seattle currently holds that spot in the west, and a win tonight would see the Sounders leap their opponents for the coveted third place.
A winner tonight will earn a rest and the automatic spot into the second round.
My preferred selection this evening is with L.A. The Galaxy come into the match with a 15-11-7 (W-L-T) mark and are unbeaten in their last three. They are a dismal 4-9-3 mark on the road, and though they lost 4-0 in a meaningless CONCACAF Champions League contest this week, they haven't lost to Seattle in two prior matches this season. The Galaxy won 4-0 at home in May and drew 1-1 last month.
The visitors come in at William Hill at odds of 2.90 to win outright.
The draw result is presently sitting at 3.25, with the both teams to score combined with the draw offered at 4.00.
Seattle is 10-2-4 at CenturyLink Field this season, while conceding less than a goal per game at home. The problem here is that the Sounders have flopped large as of late, losing four straight games, and they haven't won in their last six, a streak that began gainst the Galaxy.
Yet, the hosts are slated at odds 2.40 to emerge victors tonight.
A Robbie Keane strike comes in at 2.25 during the match. The former Irish international is fourth in the league with 15 goals this year. He scored a hat trick against the Sounders in the first match between the sides this season and those odds are worth at least a $10 bet.
