A crucial Eastern Conference match goes down tonight in Houston as the Dynamo can jump into playoff position with a win over New York. At 3.30, the draw certainly intrigues.
This will be the second time that these two squads meet this season with New York edging out Houston back on June 30 with a 2-0 result at Red Bull Arena.
Only five points separate the two clubs as the MLS playoff race heats up. Houston can move up to fourth spot with a win and to do that William Hill has it slated at odds of 2.25. The Dynamo were winless on their recent three game road trip but are undefeated in their last five at BBVA Compass Stadium.
In 16 all time meetings between the two clubs, the road team has never won. Though this stat favours Houston, I prefer the draw here at 3.30. This result has cracked in 44 percent of the all-time meetings and I feel both teams are going to come out hard in a closely contested battle and not willing to concede full points given the high stakes.
What worries me is New York's Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde act all season. At home, the team performs quite strong but on the road it's a different matter. The Red Bulls are 4-7-3 when away and have conceded the second highest total away goals of all teams in the East. They've also lost their last two road matches to Chivas and Columbus. And they will be without Tim Cahill for a couple of weeks after he took a bad knock last match.
A New York win is listed at 3.20, but I won't be wagering on that.
The last three times these teams played, the result has ended up as a 2-0 result for the home side. That same result can be taken at 11.00.
The under 2.5 has hit in four straight games between these two clubs and is listed today at 1.80 to hit again.
