The New York Red Bulls rumble into Gillette Stadium on Saturday night to face the New England Revolution for the third time this season after each squad took one each at home.
The New England Revolution were eliminated from the MLS playoff race for the third straight season last week after a 2-1 defeat to D.C. United. They have only won once in their last 11 matches. Their Achilles heel was their abysmal play on the road in which they have only produced only one win all year. Luckily for them they are at home tonight where they are 6-4-5.
The Revs defeated New York last time they came to town by a 2-0 scoreline and they have not lost to them at home since 2002 and have won 13 of the last 17 matches between the two squads since.
Despite losing last week, the Revs did play very well against D.C., notching 28 shots in the game and had a shutout streak lasting over 200 minutes finally broken. The problem is the team has not been consistent and as a result they are being offered at 2.68 at home to win in the outright market while the home/home result pays out 4.45 at the moment.
Considering New York has allowed 18 goals in the opening 30 minutes in MLS games this season perhaps the New England to lead at half-time with a payout of 3.45 isn’t a bad selection.
The draw result can be had over at Sportsbook.com for 3.25 and offers the best value of the outright lines.
New York will be without the services of 13 goal-man Thierry Henry who was suspended after New York’s home loss to Sporting K.C. three days ago. It was the Bulls’ first loss at home in a year.
The loss will hurt but not that much as the Red Bulls have a very deep squad in the attack including Kenny Cooper, Jose Agudelo, and Sebastien Le Toux. A New York victory to break that 10-year slide at Gillette Stadium is slated for 2.46. The team is only four points clear in the playoff race and a loss could cut that drastically so look for New York to finish strong and at least walk away with a point.
