Real Salt Lake is in a must-win situation when it hosts the champions of Panama’s top flight in Tauro FC at Rio Tinto Stadium late Tuesday night.
The Royals lost at home this past Saturday in MLS league play to FC Dallas by a 2-1 score and are on a four-game losing streak in all competitions, which is why it is quite surprising to see them so heavily favoured with a payout of only 1.16 for the outright win.
They have been stellar for the most part at home, with a record of 9-4-1 (W-L-T) to show for it, but they have lost their last two at Rio Tinto Stadium.
Tauro has yet to play a match in the 2012 Champions League, but represented Panama in the competition last year where it exited in the first round, finishing last with a record of 1-3-2, its only win coming at home against FC Dallas and picking up another point against the Texans on the road.
The Panamanians also currently lead their 10-team league with a record of 4-1-1, though the competition isn’t exactly matching the quality of Major League Soccer.
The 11.00 underdog status seems a bit much, but with the goals expected to come into this game you can look at the Over 2.5 or even the 3.5 as RSL needs to pile it on here and against Herediano in its final match if it hopes to advance to the next round.
Expect Real to win, but don’t waste your money on the lowly payout for the outright, instead get a slightly improved value for RSL to win at the 45 and 90 minute marks in the Halftime/Fulltime result, which pays out 1.57. The draw/RSL result is even better at 3.80, and it isn’t as far-fetched as the bookmakers are making it out to be.
