thumbnail Hello,

Goal breaks down the top five World Cup standout players to watch as we approach the start of the English Premier League season.

As Arsenal's newest big-money signing, much will be expected of Chile superstar Alexis Sanchez. The 25-year-old moves to North London after his best-ever offensive club season with Barcelona and a secound-round appearance with his national team in the World Cup.

Chile was one of the dark horse favorites this summer, but lost to host Brazil on penalties in the round of 16, with Sanchez failing to score his spot kick after equalizing in the 32nd minute, but he did finish his country's top scorer with two goals.

And although Barcelona failed to claim any trophies last season, Sanchez was a standout performer in La Liga, tallying 19 goals and 10 assists in 34 matches, and Gunners fans will be thrilled if he replicates that form.

Sanchez will likely play wide of central striker Olivier Giroud in Arsenal's 4-3-3/4-5-1 formation, cutting inside with Arsenal's quick fullbacks overlapping, although he'll also to be available to replace the Frenchman when required by fitness or form.

Sanchez and Arsenal kick off the 2014-15 Premier League season with a match at home to Crystal Palace on Aug. 16.
