Traditional rivals Chivas and América will have yet another venue in which to compete for the supremacy of Mexican soccer.

On Thursday, the Liga de Futbol Indoor was announced to the media, with the Guadalajara and Mexico City sides headlining an initial eight-team competition that will begin play on Sept. 20.

The league will consist of eight teams divided into two groups of four. América, Cruz Azul, Pumas and Pachuca will be in Group A, while Atlas, Tecos, Toluca and Chivas will take part in Group B.

Noted former players Joel Sanchez, Gonzalo Farfan and Carlos Briones, among others, will have an active participation within the league either as players or coaches, in hopes that fans embrace the new format.

Ticket sales for the league will benefit a children's charity in Mexico City. "I'll be a coach, and the added bonus here is that we'll be coming together for a charity," Farfan said. He will manage América's indoor squad.
