Lampard 'gutted' for suspended Chelsea captain Terry

The England midfielder believes the defender has every right to feel aggrieved at missing the Champions League final after his dismissal against Barcelona in the semi-final

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard is “gutted” that suspended teammate John Terry will miss the Champions League final.

Lampard, who paid tribute to his teammates’ contribution in getting Chelsea to the final, believes the former England captain has every right to feel aggrieved over his suspension after receiving a straight red card for kicking out at Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez during the Blues' 3-2 aggregate win.

“There was no real malice in it [the challenge]. I’m gutted for him because everyone knows Chelsea’s in his heart,” said Lampard, the club's vice captain will now lead the side out at the Allianz Arena on May 19.

Branislav Ivanovic, Ramires and Raul Meireles will also watch from the stands after picking up their third booking of the knockout stages during the game at Camp Nou.

"You've got to feel for all of them [Ivanovic, Meireles, Ramires and Terry] and they're massive players that we'll miss," added the 33-year-old. "Whether we win or lose, those players who miss the final take complete credit for being involved anyway."
