The Liverpool striker is ready to undergo a medical with the Loftus Road club as Harry Redknapp pursues a deadline-day replacement for Chelsea-bound striker Loic Remy.
The Loftus Road club sold Loic Remy, who spent last season at Newcastle, to Chelsea on Sunday and subsequently entered the market to find a deadline-day replacement.

Newly promoted QPR was linked with a move for former West Ham and Tottenham forward Jermain Defoe, who is currently playing for Toronto FC, and unsuccessfully bid for Lens of Dynamo Kiev.
Harry Redknapp appears to have had more luck in his pursuit of Borini, who impressed last season while on loan at Sunderland.
The Black Cats agreed a 14 million pound fee for the Italian's permanent transfer earlier this summer but Borini looked set to opt to stay at Anfield and fight for a first-team place.
Now, though, he is heading to west London for a medical before completing what is likely to be a season-long loan deal.
Borini netted 10 goals in 40 games for Sunderland last season and also enjoyed productive spells at Swansea and Roma while still a Chelsea player.
He managed only two goals in 20 games after joining Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool, however, and found himself restricted to a bit-part role on Merseyside.
