Filipe Luis could be the ideal player to replace Ashley Cole at Chelsea. That seems to be the main objective for Jose Mourinho. After Diego Costa confirmed exclusively to Goal that his move to Chelsea is done, the Blues are again looking at Atletico Madrid's best players.

Last season, Filipe Luis was one of the top defenders in La Liga in his position. The Brazilian has reached the very peak of his game after arriving from Deportivo and has been an irreplaceable player for Diego Simeone.

Atletico offered him an improved contract but he seems to have decided that Stamford Bridge is the place to be. It's worth pointing out that Atleti signed Guilherme Siqueira from Benfica a few days ago and everything points to that deal being done as a way to replace Filipe Luis.
The Londoners have told the Spanish champion they willl pay the 25 million euro release clause in the 28-year-old's contract.

Chelsea is confident that Luis is keen to join the club and line up alongside current teammate Diego Costa at Stamford Bridge next season.

Manager Jose Mourinho has already bolstered his squad by signing Cesc Fabregas from Barcelona and a deal worth up to 43 million euros for Costa is expected to be completed imminently.

Chelsea has money to spend following the combined sales of Juan Mata and Kevin De Bruyne in January, and by off-loading David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for an initial 50 million euros this summer.

Brazil international Luis has been targeted by Mourinho to replace Ashley Cole, who will leave Stamford Bridge on a free transfer when his contract expires this month.

Losing another key figure in Atletico's title triumph is a blow for the Spanish club's manager Diego Simeone. But the Champions League runner-up was prepared for the defender's departure and has already signed his replacement, with fellow Brazilian Siqueira joining from Granada last week.

Mourinho had moved for Southampton's Luke Shaw to fill the left back slot that was taken by Cesar Azpilicueta for the second half of last season.

However, the Londoners were not prepared to match the offer tabled to the player by Manchester United, which is confident it has wrapped up a deal for the England international.

Chelsea and Atletico have also been negotiating the future of goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, who has spent the last three seasons on loan in Madrid.

Mourinho has confirmed that he wants the giant Belgian at Stamford Bridge next season.

It is understood that the manager is keen to promote Courtois and encourage long-serving No. 1 Petr Cech to find a new club.
