The 29-year-old Canadian international joined the MLS side for a trial in February.Toronto FC got a little bit more Canadian on Friday when the club announced the signing of Issey Nakajima-Farran. The 29-year-old Calgary-born winger had previously joined the club on trial in early February, and he re-joined the side during the final week of preseason.
“We are very excited to get this deal finalized and bring Issey on as an official member of Toronto FC,” TFC general manager Tim Bezbatchenko said in a statement. “Issey has been training with the club on and off for a number of weeks and is quite familiar with the coaches and players. We needed to add another wide player to our roster and we are confident he will be able to fit in nicely here at TFC.”
Raised in Japan, Nakajima-Farran had never played for a club in Canada prior his move to Major League Soccer. He's spent time with several clubs in Denmark, and has also played for Australia's Brisbane Roar and AEK Larnaca in Cyprus.
A Canadian international, Nakajima-Farran debuted for the national side in 2006 and has amassed 30 caps, scoring once. He is expected to compete with Alvaro Rey and Jackson Goncalves for playing time on the TFC flanks.
