Toronto FC - which was eliminated from the 2011/12 CONCACAF Champions League by Santos Laguna - will once again face the Mexican giant in the CCL, along with C.D. Aguila.Toronto FC will face a familiar foe in the upcoming edition of the CONCACAF Champions League.
The Reds were placed into Group 1 of the 2012/13 tournament, along with Santos Laguna of Mexico and Salvadorean side C.D. Aguila.
In April, Toronto was eliminated at the semifinal stage by Santos Laguna after making an improbable run to the penultimate round of of the 2011/12 CCL that included wins over Major League Soccer rivals FC Dallas and the Los Angeles Galaxy.
TFC is currently 1-9 in MLS play, but Aron Winter's side advanced to the CCL by virtue of winning the Canadian Championship last month. Toronto dispatched the Montreal Impact and Vancouver Whitecaps en route to its fourth consecutive Voyageurs Cup title as Canadian champions.
Unlike previous editions of the Champions League, the 2012/13 tournament features eight groups of three teams, with only the group winners moving on to the knockout stage. CONCACAF will announce the CCL schedule at a later date, with the tournament set to kick off on July 31.
